DYS 1080p

I just grabbed one of these DYS ';GoPro format'; cameras from RadioC, thought I';d chalk it up here.

http://www.radioc.co.uk/Dys-HDV-1-1080p-Action-Camera-Gropro-format-p/3048.htm

As I lost a Mobius on my 250, I needed a replacement, and saw this for just over £70, which I guess isn';t a massive amount more than another Mobius, a camera which I have reservations about.  I know loads of folk use them, but I never really liked the quality that much, I felt it lacked the detail of a GoPro, which of course is no surprise as they are a couple of hundred quid difference in price.
Ok, so I already have a GP 3 black, and it';s the dog';s bits, but it';s a little tiny bit precious to me, and I';d hate to see it go the way of the Mobius, or get thrashed into a wall or hedge, but the sample footage I saw of this camera persuaded me to part with the dosh, with the idea of strapping it to my 250, and also fits nicely in my home made gimbal ';frame';, as it';s same form factor as the real thing.

Well, I just cable tied it on, maybe not the most elegant solution, but it';s been a long day and I';m s******!
I did a bit of capture out the back garden, and TBH, it looks more or less as good as the GoPro itself, but obviously lacks the uber speeds/resolutions of the GP, but that';s not what I really need, so am happy with the quality for that money.

Here it is on the Xugong:

Hope to get some footage tomorrow, so I';ll post it up if I do. I';m having teething troubles with the gimbal controller ATM, and I can no longer connect to it with the GUI, it won';t install the driver, another Windows damaged or unrecognised device occurence.
I';ve ordered another off ebay for £15, should be here next week.

Good stuff.

BTW credit given where credit due and all that, RadioC & RM got this to me next day, so well done chaps!

Mine arrived today. I';m quite impressed with it overall. Did a quickie indoors test in various lighting. It was okay, the switch between incandescent, flourescent and LED lighting got the white balance a bit haywire!  But otherwise it looks promising.  I might "wear" it on the motorcycle tomorrow ...

Good stuff Danny.  I';m happy with mine, it';s better than a mobius in my opinion, i';m on the lookout for a filter for outside use.  I';m also going to try the fpv output, might as well make the most of it eh?

maybe try a gopro layer lens? but pricey though think there around £25

actually it doesn';t actually filter anything so just forget i said anything

What coloul filter are we talking about?  For underwater, predominance of blue because ocean filters out the red, a red filter is required.  So if these cameras have a blue cast to them then are we saying a red will even it out?

The price of go-pro red filters is stupid ridiculous!  I don';t remember coloured filters costing so much when I were a lad with my Praktica Reflex.

Yes, I used to dabble with filters myself.  I';m a bit rusty on that subject, but Google/Wikipedia will bring me up to speed.  TBH, I mainly did B&W photography back in the day, you know David Bailey/Bill Brandt stuff, so used a red filter I think to accentuate cloud on a dull sky.

Ta for that, i';ll look in that direction, sounds promising.
Btw, i of course looked at toning it down in imovie, but had no luck there.

CTO - thank you for that.

Filter material can be quite expensive. I';ve been looking around EBay and found this seller ... £1.65 a sheet.  Is it any good to use to make filters for these little cameras? I also need a red filter for underwater (scuba diving) to naturalise the lighting down there.

Should be fine Danny, i read that the better the quality the less it suffers from scratches, but as it';s cheap.  I';m going to cut some up on the laser.

Ah, but which CTO do I go for Andy?  Do I choose 1/4 or 1/2?

Think I';ll pick up a Primary Red while I';m there, for the scuba use.

Hm..instinct says go for 1/4, as the 1/2 looks too think, but as I';ve never used it before, it';s difficult to be more positive.  Both!
