The multirotor "wall"...

I hit it. That psychological barrier that you just can';t climb. Writers block for quad tinkering :( Wanted to get my 250 rebuild along quickly last night for some hooning today, so I sat in front of it, in bits, and couldn';t be bothered... I need to shorten my motor wires, or rather solder them direct to each esc, but my PDB is being replaced in a week or two when a frame piece turns up anyway, so I will have to leave slack enough to cover any eventuality... And as predicted (by me, not the weather man) its peeing down in any case

Taking a few weeks off I think. Anyone else hit "the wall"?

Yes. I';m in and out of it a lot mate. Your not alone. I used to prefer the tinkering than the flying. Now I much prefer the flying. The tinkering had become an inconvenience. However once I get going on said tinkering it usually passes and I quite enjoy it. You just need to get started.

I hit the wall so hard I have sold all my multirotor gear. The same thing happened when I flew helicopters.

For some of us I think it';s just par for the course

Not exactly hit the wall - but can sometimes get into a right old CBA mode for either or all of tinker, build or actually fly.  Although I really do love the flying, in particular the FPV when it goes well.

I don';t know what the psychology of wall-hitting is. It isn';t pleasant. Quite frustrating when there';s a pile of boxes of various bits and bobs that would build the Ark Royal on a good day!

But a few days later it comes back, I get my mojo and its "yeehaa" and I';m off again.

Yeah I feel for you. Despite being new to this I still hit it. It can last a day or two, maybe three but then I';m right back on it. On the days when I';m just not feeling it I end up window shopping for gadgets and tech on the www. This usually gets me fired up and back out there. ;)

I ended up just flying a Nano QX around the front room for 20 minutes to cheer myself up

That';s the same feeling as being stuck between floors.

Haven';t had it much lately, in fact I';ve re kindled my love for electronics, if only I can pick the DJing back up.
Why use 4 motors when you can use 6?

I put my Hubsan to similar use too. Kitchen and front room not a problem now but I still can';t master flying it up the stairs and beyond.  ;)

I think hitting the wall says more about the person than the hobby...

I';ve hit the wall but not for the reasons most have - over the past couple of months I';ve watched my brother in law slowly and painfully die of cancer (just over a week ago now) and to be perfectly honest I';ve just lost interest in everything. Being honest I actually never got on with him and didn';t actually like him but it';s affected me so much. It';s brought home to me how trivial my own woes are and I now know that I have to pick myself up and get my arse into gear and do the things I want to while I can,  life';s too short!!!
My advice to any of you who hit the wall is to make sure you know what you want to do and get on with it,  no excuses for not getting on with it - just do it,  you don';t know what tomorrow will bring!

mutley2

I didn';t hit the wall so much as just went round it and started fixed wing FPV, 3months on I';ve got a taste again for multirotors win win

@DarrellW - So sorry to read what you';ve just gone through. Such traumatic times take their toll and can make everything seem insignificant. Your sage advice is of course spot on, live life to the full, enjoy as much of it as you possibly can, and accept that hard and difficult times do happen.

I kind of think that wall hitting is a natural phenomenon. Us humans are always wanting to be stretched and challenged. When something becomes either routine or too easy the wall looms up and its generally time to work out how to overcome the hit.

Personally I don';t put too much worry into wall hitting, just accepting that it happens, it will pass, and I';ll spend more time focussed on either something else to be doing or on what else to do with the hobby. How to delve even deeper or broader, as @mutley2 has done with winged aircraft.

I absolutely love flying these things, as much as building and fettling.
