Hi guys I';m looking to upgrade my GoPro3 for a sony nex to use on my Tarot FY680 but I can';t figure which one would be the best.
Looked at many sites and all say different things. I want to take high-quality aerial photos and to have it so I can have a live downlink using my Fatshark transmitter so I can see what the camera is seeing.

If anyone can give me some help with this it would be extremely appreciated.

Nex 5N is prob cheapest.. 2nd hand on ebay you can get some good deals.. use a 19mm Sigma lens though.. the 16mm Sony lens is not very good.

New I would get the Sony A6000.. it is miles better than Nex 5N

I wouldnt pay a premium for a Nex 6 or 7...  pay the extra and get the A6000

What is the difference between the Nex 6 and 7? The SonyA6000 will that work on the same gimbal?

I';d have to recommend the a6000 too Jez. Although I';ve not got mine in the air yet I can vouch that it really is a great bit of kit. It being mirror less is an added bonus for aerial photography purposes and one which no doubt undoubtedly sways it for a lot of people.

Thanks guys. Will a Tatro 680 lift it? This is what set up at the moment. I was told it can lift a sony nex. http://www.foxtechfpv.com/tarot-fy680-naza-v2-artf-combo-p-1171.html

I would think so yes though your 800kv motors I think are the highest I';ve seen to be running on a 680. Don';t worry, they will be fine but more users tend to go for lower kv motors say in the 580kv to 700kv range. My a6000 will be used under a 680 too plus I have already read of others doing it so yes, it should be fine.

I';m one of the least qualified on here to comment but I';m sure there';ll be somebody else along soon to give a more expert opinion.

I have the nex5r. The video footage is very "soft" in comparison to my gp3 black, but of course you have the benefit of full manual control. There are times I prefer the simplicity of the gp3 for video, but the stills from the nex are very nice indeed. Don';t forget you';ll need to shell out for a gimbal, which will probably cost as much as the camera.

It will lift it but my real world experience is that is will be on the limit and flight times will be very reduced.

My Y6 800 flies for 12min (with some spare time) with a gopro and Tarot gimbal but this falls to 8min (with very little spare) with the Nex5n and ASP gimbal.

I run tiger 2814 770kv motors on parallel 4S 5000mah lipos

I have to be very disciplined with the Nex5n and have a clear flight plan as there is no spare flight time.

Also be prepared to really learn to use the Nex5 as it requires lots of set up to get a good result as you cannot trust the autofocus when filming so need to set focus manually.

The Nex5 or similar is fantastic for Photography and good for more cinematic film if you have time to set it up and the possible luxury of a re take if everything is not right.

For "live event" type filming then the gopro is the way forward as it gets good footage in the can every time when there is only one chance.

Thank you for your reply guys. Can anyone recommend a gimbal which is not a money killer that will fit on my Tatro680 and will fit the a6000 please?

The clarity of the a6000 coupled with the 19mm Sigma lens is staggering. Especially considering the price of the Sigma lens. A real bargain for the money.

Great pic there!  ::)

hi there ... personally i think you will be stretching your limits with a sony cam on 800kv mtrs !!! it will lift it but you will have very little spare power in the event of a motor failure or esc failure... the nex 5 with gimbal is just over a kilo in weight !!!

I will be upgrading the motors before I take to the air with it. :-) I agree it would be  stretching the limits otherwise.

Hi Craig.

I can';t remember if it was yourself or another user who was considering getting the 60mm Sigma lens for the a6000? I was just wondering if the 60mm had been tried out under a multi yet?

The weight difference isn';t huge(165g for the 19mm and 196g for the 60mm. This is with no caps and a Hoya 46mm UV filter in place) but I understand it';s more the balance than weight which may be a problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Andy.

Might be a daft question but does the Sony A6000 support IR?
