How OCD are you?

My wife and kids tell me I have OCD, (I think it should be CDO, the same as OCD, but the letters are in the correct alphabetical order!)

All my copters have matching motors, esc';s, and props, so my question is, to what extent can you mis-match parts, is anybody running four different motors or esc';s or even different makes of props.

I imagine it';s perfectly possible, just the flight controller will have to work a bit harder.

If so can you post a pic and give us the specs?

Just for my own curiosity.

Thanks,
Callum

Her indoors is the same, and no I wouldn';t dream of mixing bits - it';s not right is it???

Biffa

Mixing things, not a chance. I have matching carp rods, reels, alarms all that stuff. If my Sky box is out of line I have to move it back.

There is no way I could have different bits on a quad it would drive me mad :frantic:

I wouldn';t mix parts on a multi, the whole point is to run identical components.

I don';t have many OCD tendencies, however one which is the weirdest, is I wont EVER buy a chocy bar that is broken, I';ll keep checking till I find one that';s whole.

The reason I asked was I saw this earlier:-

http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=6846.msg56561;topicseen#new

And it got me thinking, if it was me I';d have to replace all the props to the same type.

I think the hobby lends itself well to those with OCD tendencies!

I';m sure somewhere someone has a great copter that is running a complete mish-mash of components.

To whoever it is that thinks it';s OCD, tell em to go put four different sized wheels/tyres on their motors and see how they like driving then!

Oooh ... oooh ... Me ... me ... me ...

I have a Firefly 450 that [now] has an assortment of rotor arms and a bottom plate of another clone - in fact I';m not even sure there is anything much of the original Firefly left save for the top plate and the screws.

The props get replaced as I break one, or two. I never replace the entire set. So the Firefly is buzzing around with props of various age and use - but they';re all perfectly balanced. I re-do the balance any time I cr... err I mean land badly.  Thats to keep the vibrations down as it uses an APM 2.5 which are quite sensitive to vibes.  Apart from that, everything else is the same, motors and make of props, ESC are all matched.

I think that as long as you';re sensible about what you mix and match with then you';ll be okay. I don';t think I would ever mix different makes and KV of motor.  Nor ESC types.  There';s some things about aerial vehicles that have simply got to be kept in order.

And I';m not sure any other air frame would take it quite like these DJI 450 clones.

Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

DarkButterfly

My tricopter has the same motors and esc';s and props, but the frame is built from hand cut perspex and wood, each time I rebuild it, I swear its different. however it flies well, is simple and cheap to fix.
The reason all my electrical parts match has nothing to do with OCD, but removing a variable that can cause problems or worse a crash.

Why use 4 motors when you can use 6?

Hmmm, would rotating the head on my heli so the tail blades are vertical when the blades are folded back and all my lipo,s in order in my case be OCD ?

A matter of opinion I think !

Thank you!

I can now report back to the missus that I';m perfectly normal and don';t have OCD/CDO.

I can now go and say good night to my fleet, making sure they are all wrapped up nice and warm in their individual custom foam lined peli cases.
