One controller, two multirotors...

Ok, this is not a suggestion nor is it something I will be trying. I just wondered what would happen.

My F550 was with the supplier with the ongoing gimbal problem. So I switched my Futaba over the the phantom and had a little fly during a break in the weather. When I got my F550 back and wanted to give it a little test (not gimbal test), I flew it around a little in the garden and although it didn';t matter, I noticed that I could not control the gimbal. A little strange, but as this was not a gimbal test I didn';t really care too much.

After a while, I got thinking about this and that when I suddenly realised the reason why the gimbal control didn';t work... I was flying on the phantom model of the transmitter. And it still flew the F550 good as gold!!

This of course got me thinking... what if both the aircraft were plugged in?? Would they both go shooting off in the same direction? How cool irresponsible would that be?   :whistling:

Of course I doubt that would happen, would it?
I may be dumb, but my learning curve is high...

Soul

Surely the problem would be that while you';d be controlling both, each would respond slightly differently to the same input. So it might start well.... ;)

Richlizard

Yes with different machines it would be.

But say you had two phantoms? Put them 30m apart?

I honestly thought I should not be able to control one with the other.  :o

Can your Tx connect to more than one Rx at a time? You might have had the wrong model selected on the Tx, but that doesn';t affect connecting at the point that the model is switched on does it?

This was my question!

I hope not!!  My understanding of DSMx (or any frequency hopping for that matter) is that if you have two identical Rx';s that have been bound to a DSMx Tx, as you can only select one model at a a time on the Tx, then only the Rx bound to that particular model would respond?  So I don';t see how it could control two Rx';s simultaneously, if that is indeed your q?

Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

Richlizard

Pretty much what I was asking Andy...

... except I had perhaps wrongly assumed that when a model was bound to the rx, it was for that model only and any other model would not work.
I may be dumb, but my learning curve is high...

flybywire

Ah, hang on, so if the two Rx';s were bound to the same model.  But then they would theoretically need to be powered on at identical times (not really possible in real world) so as to follow the same hopping patern?

I don';t think so, but hey what do i know?

The more I read replies, the more I am tempted to try. What';s the worst that could happen?

well, it';s all about experimentation eh?!  So, thinking about this some more, I really don';t know is the answer!  My thoughts are that frequency hopping must be similar to computer encryption, with tokens and such like, so once the Tx is powered up (always first!) it looks for Rx';s to bind to, so when it finds your first Rx, a handshake is initiated, and the frequency hopping begins(?).  Meanwile back at the ranch, when your second identical Rx also ';bound'; to that model fires up, I think it will immediately go into failsafe, as it will not detect the Tx signal, as it';s already ';locked'; to another Rx model, I think Spektrum call it ';model match';, I guess Futaba works on a similar if not identical principle?
It';s all theory tho.

well that';s my theory out the water anyhow.  I';m trying it at the weekend!!

I';m not familiar with:
';EduQuad360 with L1 controller from Unmanned dynamics';

I guess it';s along the lines of these massed drone ';synchronisation'; style vids that abound on the tube, they must be synced to one Tx signal.

Or is it April fool';s?

I thought the Rx bound to the Tx itself, not the specific selected model on the Tx?

I';ve deleted the 1 model I have on my Taranis before and not had to rebind. Or am I getting confused?

flybywire

Well i can';t speak for the Taranis/Frsky setup, as I';ve only bound 1 Rx to 1 model on the Taranis so far, but Spektrum have ';model match';, so you can';t get the wrong model by mistake, and believe you me, I';ve done that a few times, but Rx just goes to fail-safe.
Maybe I took it for granted that';s how all 2.4 systems work?  I need to do more reading, I can see.

no it';s not April fools !

no special ';synchronisation'; cameras to give positional feedback etc

the controller in question is an AutoQuad - the vid was them testing some revised controller code (L1+DCA adaptive control)
