Anyone know why they take longer to spin down than the plastic props I have on the other 2 motors? I just arm and disarm and the HQ ones take about 1/2sec long to stop.
Is it a more efficient profile?

I nearly sliced my hand open on mine when I picked my quad up the other day ... the wind passing through them was enough to make them spin at quite some speed - so I';d say these are quite efficient blades.

Phil I want a couple of sets of 10x4.5 but to fit the DJI cammed motors ? whats the score with these please m8?

DJI cleverly had that cam/key';d shaft so you are locked into their props in main, unfortunatly I dont have a stock of props that would fit :(

Sorry

Phil, are the 11x5';s gemfans? Only I';ve not have much luck with gemfan composites as the hubs are always out of balance :(

Out of curiosity how brittle are these compared to nylon props?
Thanks.

In my experience they are a lot stiffer and a little more brittle.

Had my first flight this morning with my 450 after rebuilding it following its coming to earth after my gps flung itself off into the props last week, used the 9x4.5 HQ';s and have to say they are excellent!!! Straight out of the packet no balancing needed and vibes much less than before. It was also my first flight with this model without gps, I';ve got one on order but too impatient to wait for the slow boat ::) ::) ::)

new props have now been picked up by dhl from HK, so they are officialy on their way

better not show anyone the black, orange and green 5x3 in plastic then, as i imagine the latter two will cause extra slippage

ordered 1 or 2 ;)

packed, ready to send
the greens should be nice
notice you did not get any of the black in plastic, just carbon reinforced, you planning to run all green, or a mix 50/50
if the latter will be interesting to see the lift differences between the materials
should be ok, I';ve not tested it though

Just to say I';ve now tested these props relative to the RC timer full carbon 5 inch props.

I think the HQ props are nicer and spin smoother (are better balanced) out of the packet.

The RCtimer props are much stronger and less likely to chip or break in small crashes. And work great in flight once balanced which they need doing.

I do wonder if using the HQ props, whilst it might mean changing props a little more often, might also save motors in some bad crashes. If the prop breaks there is less stress on the motor. If the prop is indestructible then that force will be transmitted to the motor and quadcopter and something has to go if it';s a hard enough impact.

I had a pretty serious crash a few days ago. I broke 3 of 4 HQ props. All motors were fine (one needed minor adjustment). I wonder if I';d been flying with the RCtimers - would the props have been fine and a motor broken instead?

Given the price of props vs the price of the sunnysky 2300kv motors i am now flying with - i';m going to keep using the slightly more fragile HQ props from now on i think.

So far i';ve only used the higher pitched 5x4 HQ props. I should test them vs the 5x3s and vs the RCtimer 5 inch carbons - with a watt meter. That';s my next job once i have the mini quad up and flying again.

I have been using carbon reinforced ABS for some time now - mostly of the 10x4.7 variety on my Firefly 450 and Alien 450 FPV aircraft. The props shatter on impact, it doesn';t take much, but the motors have survived every single irregular landing without incident.

Now I am using HQ prop 5x3 on my MHQ (3D printed) and ZMR motors. I';ve had one tumble so far and lost a single prop in the process - no damage to either the motors or the vulnerable 3D printed ABS rotor arms.   I think CF props might have cause an unfavourable energy transference into the motors/frame, as you have suggested.

A bit of a pain losing a prop almost on contact - but if it saves more expensive parts then I';m all for it ~~

That is exactly the point - relatively inexpensive and easily replaced!

philtrum

new stock of 5x3 props and 5x4 props (both carbon reinforced) on their way from the supplier at the moment, on express delivery, so will be a week or so (depending on customs)

Phil, firstly thanks for the excellent service, always a pleasure to order from makeitbuildit as I know its going to be zero hassle and quick.

Question, when are you expecting the HQ 9x4.5';s back in stock?

Thanks

Patrick.
