How is your Gimbal fitment?

I hope to move onto a gimbal but I can see a problem as the standard gimbal design would mean my lipo is in the way. How do you mount your gimbal if you have an underslung lipo? Pics would be great.

I have this problem also.  My plan is to use larger legs which will let me position the battery behind the gimbal.

I managed to get the height clearance between bottom plate and gimbal (using standoffs) but unfortunately due to 50mmx50mm footprint of the gimbal plates no decent capacity lipo would fit, width wise, so had to move lipo to top plate.  Not such a big deal with a gimbal slung underneath to counter balance it.

Not got any pics handy of lipo mounted but you can see the velcro on the top plate where it would sit. Just a velcro strap holding it on.

Yeah, velcro or not, there';s plenty of real estate for the lipo.!

Yeah, I used to use my 450 without gimbal with a lipo on the top plate, fc etc in the middle and no legs or gimbal.  Wasnt really an issue tbh. Like you say, plenty of unused space. :-)

I don';t suppose you have pic please?

Sorry, didn';t see your question til just now. My airframe has a kind of cage and my Velcro straps just slot through the top of the cage.

Now my gimbal';s arrived I can';t figure out how to fit it to my F550 clone as I like to have the lipo underslung also. Are there any extension plates for such a problem or would the lipo fit between the upper and lower plates?

This is the landing gear I made for my 550 it has space for 2 lipos then you put your gimbal underneath

I have two 12mm carbon rails bolted under my bottom plate running forward. My gimbal has small claw brackets (like the Tarot ones) that grab the rails so I can slide the whole gimbal on and off the frame easily. My FPV camera case also has these claws built in so it too can fit on the rails. Underneath in the centre of the frame, my battery tray (soon to be replaced with a carbon double  battery holder) also picks up the rails so if I have the gimbal on, I can slide the battery back to rebalance the hex then lock it off. If I take the gimbal off, I just slide the battery forward again.

Sorry for the blurry pics but it might give you some ideas, works well for me.

Dek, I see you have the rctimer dome too. I';m mulling over how to ensure I centre the base plate, I';m not much good at precision measuring/drilling.

Regards the rail attachments, where did you get those from? I have a spare set of rails with landing gear I hope to use.

The infamous Goodluckbuy was where I got mine. Can';t see them now but http://www.goodluckbuy.com/brushless-gimbal-60mm-suspension-mount-kit-for-h-shape-aircraft.html these look very similar. the advantage being the Tarot claw hangers would fit straight on.

Re: getting the AVDome central. Really all you can do, because none of the holes line up with any slots on my plate is to pick four evenly spaced holes and visually centre the base plte on your top plate then adjust to get it measuring evenly from any point. I then taped it down to the top plate. I got a propelling pencil and extended the lead out about 12mm and drew through the holes I wanted down onto my top plate. Remove the aluminium plate and very lightly dot the pencilled circles, I used an automatic dot punch on a very light setting. I then drilled through with a 3.1mm drill, fitted perfik!
