Hi Everyone,

I have a pretty pimped out F550 rig, with Naza, Zenmuse, iosd, dji downlink, data link etc etc. Everything DJI make pretty much.

I was flying it yesterday with the ipad ground station, and I plotted a flight on the ipad and sent it off. The path went between two trees but I believed it was at a safe height, above the trees. In any case, the distance between the trees was pretty big. It was a little bit windy, and as the hex flew towards the trees, it was noticably over to one side. I could see it was going to crash but (and I dunno why) I did absolutly nothing about it. I just let it fly into the tree, I could have stopped it with the big stop button on the ipad or taken control over with the hand unit, but for some reason, I just watched it. God knows why, but I just stood there and watched it hit the tree.

Anyway.

It skimmed the tree, and as youd expect, it fell from the sky. It was only about 5m up at this point. It tumbled down, and was fully upside down at one point. The naza went mental, and it throttled up the motors, flipped the hex back over, stabilised it, and it carried on flying! The hex made it to its waypoint, at which point i called it back and it landed. The damage were two broken props (about an inch broken off the end (DJI1038s)) and no other damage whatsoever. Considering the hex is about 3+kg, and it was falling so fast, the fact it managed to flip itself over so quickly is rather remarkable.

Heres the video from the gopro that was onboard.

That';s deer/rabbit in the head light syndrome. Shame you didn';t have another camera recording LOS.
