Interesting that the FAA are more optimistic than even Amazon.

Surely that';s a wind up ?

I suspect more a PR exercise. Drones are hot news right now and amazon just grabbed some headline space.

Maybe in 4 years time or so this will be practical but starting work on it now just seems like a way to get in the papers to me. I';d leave it until the range and redundancies had been improved a bit more by others first before jumping on this bandwagon if i was a major company like amazon, practically speaking.

I';m not sure that';ll be the case.  Aero technology will advance this way, in line with other robotics.  How soon will depend on a number of things.  But for certain, if we don';t get this in the First World then we will be left behind [again] by the so-called emerging economies and nations

http://on.ted.com/Matternet - what Amazon are proposing is not unique, and with the amount of serious thought being given to it I expect that we';ll see this in some form or another within a decade.

The impact to hobbyist should be negligible - certainly no more than today with other aircraft.  I would expect there to be "drone routes" which we';ll have to avoid, but other than that I can';t see why we';d suffer.

No chance this will happen. They would get hijacked. There would be pirates in the skies with brand new products flying around unsupervised! If someone is willing to stab someone for the latest copy of gta I';m sure they';d have no issue of taking a drone out of the sky with a pellet gun, stone or even another multirotor. Never going to happen! Do they knock on ur door and ask for ur signature too

Prometheus

No, don';t be stupid,

They have a retina scanner. you look into the drone';s scanner, if you are not the correct person, your brain is wiped and your eyes burned with a laser..

We';re all doomed !!     :frantic:

Hey xxpitt, don';t you be sending your videos as part of your CV  for the piloting :nananana:
Alien homemade , 330 homemade wonderful little thing oh and the 250 mini that is wonderful

On the BBC News site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology/

Can';t see it happening. Accuracy required and risk of some excited buyer grabbing the multi while flying! Ouch.

Bearing in mind the weight of the payload (parcels) will massively drop flight times and the distance it can travel. They clearly havent thought about redundancy in terms of a buggered motor/prop!

At least they wouldn';t have to worry about leaving enough power in the lipo to get it back home

this sounds about right probably.

I agree. When i heard this news story my first thought was ';this is an attempt to grab positive PR in the face of the recent BBC program about how badly they treat their workers';;
