Found my colleague musing over this site, being an ATC nerd!  It is fascinating tho.

N.B Naturally I berated him and told him to get on with his work..

P.S the live ';cockpit view'; is something else.

Have that app on my Iphone  :azn

Another good feature is when a plane is flying over your position and a dot is in the radar display you point the phone at approximately where it says it is in the sky and a display comes up telling you plane ID - height - speed .. and lo and behold you can see it up there ...its remarkably accurate

Put it over Heathrow or Gatwick and watch them coming in every 90 seconds or so in a line ... also by clicking on them see the holding patterns they';ve been in  ::)

How do you get the live cockpit view?
I may be dumb, but my learning curve is high...

Yeh it';s one of the most popular apps here at BA headquarters (next to T5)

Rich, just click on a plane, then on left hand side of screen, on the plane tab, slelct ';3D view';.  You need to install the google browser app, only works on Chrome methinks?  It';s work in progress so to speak, but the concept is awesome.  :wack0

On the iphone the cockpit view is pretty good at altitude - but it gets messy nearer the ground ... sometimes the runway is miles off - sometimes its dead on - sometimes it freezes at 300ft or so ... but still pretty darn good  :azn

I';ve set mine to watch from 0ft to 50000ft - then you pick up most stuff  ~~

There';s a turning beacon near Lands End somewhere so we get a fair bit transiting over here at 30000 odd ft ... I often used to look up at the contrails and wonder ... now I can identify every one   Really interesting the variety ;)

As a further development, it would be great if our ';goody bags'; containing much awaited multirotor parts from overseas could be tracked on a granular level like this?

I have the pro version (a couple of ££) on main computer, laptop, tablet & HTC One phone. been using it for several years. Brilliant app/programme.

Apart from being nosey, looking up and seeing a contrail & wondering where they are off to etc, I find it very handy to check flight arrivals/departures. For those who haven';t discovered that feature, find the airport of interest on the map, click on it and hey presto...

Oh will have to look out for that app sounds cool. Although I dont need to look up to see a plane as most of the time I';m sat in one looking down lol
