Oooh, would you be willing to print me a set? For suitable compensation of course  ~~

I was quite impressed at how much there is on Thingiverse for RC aircraft.

Hi everyone, I was the designer behind this mount.  It was originally designed for drones that are going to be used for wildlife research and conservation in Africa.  You can read a bit more about the design process and initial testing here:

http://www.diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/3d-printed-anti-vibration-mount

There';s different versions available for KK, OP and Pixhawk controllers.  If you';ve got a controller I haven';t covered, I';d be happy to modify the design to suite.

The STL files are released under the Creative Commons Non Commercial 3.0 licence, so if you have access to a 3D printer, you can print them out for free.  However, if you don';t have access, and want to support me, I';ve made the designs available on Shapeways:

https://www.shapeways.com/shops/01robotics

There';s a range of colours available, and you';ll receive a high quality print made from Nylon.

The rubber dampeners required to complete the mount are available from these sellers:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__37447__General_Purpose_Anti_Vibration_Rubber_w_M3_x_11mm_Screw_and_M3_Nylock_Nut_4pcs_set.html
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/9mm-m3-high-elastic-rubber-ball-dual-head-anti-vibration-for-ptz-4-pack.html
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/9mm-M3-High-Elastic-Rubber-Ball-Dual-head-Anti-vibration-for-PTZ-4piece-Pack/206605_716822920.html

The Chinese have already copied my designs (without consent or acknowledgement), and are able to manufacture a cheaper version from here:
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/index.php?target=products&mode=search&subcats=Y&type=extended&avail=Y&pshort=Y&pfull=Y&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&cid=0&q=3d+printing+vibration&x=-1267&y=-146

While I think this better reflects the cost of material, I';m simply not able to find a manufacturer who is able to produce it this cheap without a significant initial investment.  The downside is that the Chinese are maximising profits at the expense of quality, but I think the product will still be functional.  My only request is that if you do buy from a Chinese seller, you donate a small amount to www.tusk.org.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let me know!

I printed the APM mount the other day - it has been absolutely fantastic at keeping my quad steady since I fitted it - I feel a lot more confident to fly without taking a vibration related nosedive. Massive thanks for your awesome designs!

Simples.

Not yet, but I';ll put it on the to do list.  Should have it completed some time on Saturday.

Hands0n

@Guymcc - Well I would like to offer you a hearty "Thanks" for your design effort. It is absolutely superb and a marvellous use of the 3D printer technology for something entirely practical and so highly functional.

I hate that the Chinese have commercialised your design outside of the spirit of Creative Commons. A definite risk of the entire concept, but altruism built the Internet  ~~ we enjoy today so lets hope it lives long  and that one day the Chinese "get it"  and start contributing themselves.

Out of interest, how tall are these when the dampers are fitted, I have clearance issues above my board?

Hi cgcrute, the height is 15.5mm, not including the double sided tape necessary to mount the controller.  I list the external dimensions on the manual up on thingiverse:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/winbepe7lj6ucbf/Omnimac%20APM%20Mount%20v1.5%20Instructions.pdf

This height in theory could be made less, at the expense of a wider mount.

MultiWii version has been added to Thingiverse:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:198114

It';s designed to be light, and use as little material as possible.  The MultiWii board can be secured using M3 or self tapping screws with an outer diameter of ~2.5 - 3mm.  To mount it to the frame, there';s the standard 45mm x 45mm M3 holes.  Chippercheese can print you out one, or you can purchase it from Shapeways here:

https://www.shapeways.com/model/1552232/omnimac-multiwii-pro-mount-v1-0.html?li=aeTabs

Just realised that the original top plate might have been a bit difficult to print on some printers.  I';ve added a flat version that will make printing much easier, but means you';ll need to use your own M3 standoffs.  These should work fine:

Guy,
Can you tell me what software you used to draw/design the object in the image you posted.
Does it import DXF.

Regards
Richard

Guymcc

Hi Richard, I use Rhino3D for modeling, and prototypes are printed on a modified Up! Mini.  Rhino will handle most 3D files, including DXFs.
