I have tried following this guide but fail at the first hurdle

I cannot open the sketch file as all the files are .ino extension when in the AIOP guide it suggests they should be .pde

Am I ok to just rename them or have I got this completely wrong

Gaza07

Hi Nosmo and welcome to the forum which version of the Arduino app are you using as the newer versions tend to use the file extension .ino  ~~

nosmo

I am using the 1.0.2 windows release from arduino.cc - I assume thats the right place to go for it

Perhaps I am copying things into the wrong folders.

Will re-read the guides.

Sorry for the newbness but I am TOTALLY new to this hobby

Gaza07

No worries your welcome to ask as many questions as you like  ~~ are you using the guide written by jumpy that you can download from here, there is also a multi wii guide that might have some info about setting arduino up  ~~

The version of the app your using should be able to load the .ino files  ~~

nosmo

Got it

The guide says to go to the file->sketch menu but nothing happens there

If I go file->open I can open the arducopter.ino and follow the guide from there

Gaza07

I think you need to setup the sketch folder in the app preferences but it should also be fine the way your doing it   ~~

Indeed I do

The most simple things are so hard when you been trying for so long

Thanks for the speedy help  ~~

secretman

just go file open chose your file then ok...
i never made a sketch for quad... always work #1

Probably in the wrong place but when I verify the firmware I get this error
C:\arduino-1.0.2\libraries\APM_RC\APM_RC.cpp:8: error: ';volatile uint32_t APM_RC_Class::_last_update'; is not a static member of ';class APM_RC_Class';

:banghead:

Gaza07

Im not 100% sure this is the problem but have you tried using a lower version of Arduino, have you copied and replaced all the libraries in the Arduino library with the ones supplied bye the firmware  ~~

secretman

all good with the 1.0.2, you need to copy libraries from the zip to the arduino folder and replace it whit the one from the zip

Gaza07

Thanks for the info secretman looks like I need to download v1.0.2 then  ~~

Heres a copy of the megapirateng v2.7r4 firmware already set up for the Crius AIOP V1 flight controller and any ublox based Gps module  ~~
I have tested this with the Rctimer cn-06 v1 Gps the firware sets the gps to 115200 baud and it works very well  ~~

yesterday i upgraded my aio with mpng 2.8.1. upgrade went easy, i had to switch some radio channels for my own config, replace the led_sequence with my own.

when i went flying outside, bad luck stroke! when i armed my copter, and I took of, it took a mind of it';s own, it climbed to about 15meters and drifted in the direction of a large lake, after a lot of fiddeling with my switches i managed to gain control and take it down a few hundered meters from my RTL position near the water. i almost saw my 500€ craft swimming!
back home I investegated the issue, it seems a flightmode switch on my 9x had stopped responding, while the copter was stuck in alt-hold.

I gues this has nothing to do with mpng or crius. but just wanted to share, please, tripple check your controls before flying!

sorry, to rude from me not to introduce myself.

I';m a 30y old Dutch guy flying a talon turnigy V2 quad-X frame with TG plush18 (blheli 0.9) ESCs, TG SK3-1130KV, AIO pro, gps, BT, frsky and custom LED';s, and a frsky 2way modded 9x transmitter. with little flying hours.

I';m a C++ programmer for a living and running a hobby company in repairing electronics, www.electronicareparaties.nl, let Google translate help you ;)

I asked my girlfriend to shoot some video me flying at mpng2.8.1, she was more concerned about me running trough the dirt with my eyes on the sky, attempting to save my plane, so I';ve got some lovely ground/grass footage :lol

I do have some footage me flying MpNg 2.7r4 http://youtu.be/Ytox5CwO190

Hello everyone,

I';ve just stumbled across this thread for the second time while trying to get my Crius AIOP v1.1 to work and thought someone here may be able to help me out.
I can seem to get the Mission Planner (1.2.27 mav 1.0) to connect to my board after uploading the MegapirateNG V2.7r4 Firmware (from this thread).
I';m pretty sure I have got this working before, but I haven';t played with the AIOP for a couple of months now and can';t remember if I did anything in particular.
The firmware seems to upload correctly from the Arduino IDE (1.0.3), but the connection attempt with Mission Planner just times out.
If I flash the board with one of the APM firmwares, it does connect with Mission Planner but of that isn';t particularly useful.
I have a CN-06 v2 GPS module, sonar and bluetooth but they are disconnected at this point, as is the Spektrum AR7000 rx.

The FC is for an X quad platform that will be used to develop a reactive obstacle avoidance system for multi-rotorcraft.
But it';s not looking good if I can';t even get the board the thing to work in the first place

EDIT: Oh, it has just started working and I';m not sure if that had anything to do with me
I';ve spent all day trying to get it to connect, I post a question and it starts working... ahhhh
:crossfingers:

Gaza07

Hi al-xg and welcome to the forum I see you have it working now  typical have you unplugged the blue tooth board by any chance because even if your not using it but its plugged in it can stop the usb from working as they use the same lines  ~~

I';ve been trying with only the FC through out the day.
The only change I can think off between it not working then working was re-uploading with Arduino 10.0.3 instead of 10.0.2... :huh
Ah well, at least it is connecting consistently now. If I manage to get the ESCs to calibrate properly I should get to try a maiden flight with the AIOP tomorrow. I';ll try and get some pictures but it';s not exactly a clean build at the moment and I';m still using the prototype laser ply frame.
I remember reading something about the automatic ESC calibration pass-through only working with certain ESCs on this board?
I did try calibrating them earlier, they do all spin up at once and at the same rate, however they do seem to be on a much steeper throttle curve than what I';m used to with the KK and KK2.0 Boards.

Gaza_07

I always calibrate my esc';s connected direct to the rx just the way ive always done them and it has always worked well, good luck on the test flight, look forward to seeing some pics  ~~

I think it';s better to use the automatic calibration from mpng, it is possible that your RX uses other ranges than mpng, it uses a fixed range eg 1000 - 2000, your RX could use 1100 - 1900. thus you wouldn';t be able to arm your motors or use the full range of your ESC.

The range is controlled by the transmitter encoder not the receiver .

Well, I';ve managed to get this thing to fly. After a first hack at the PIDs I have some very stable acro, stabilze and alt hold.
I had a few attempts at FPV fight earlier but it was getting a bit dark and it got a bit confusing, good fun though, I had only flow tricopters until now.

I still haven';t managed to get my CN-06 v2 GPS module to work with the AIOP. I can get good a fix in U-centre. It doesn';t hold the settings as soon as the power is cut, that shouldn';t really be a problem though but I just don';t get any sign of the module being detected by the board in Mission Planner.

I';ll try and get a more useful picture at some point, but this gives a general idea of what this prototype looks like.

It will end up having the motors mounted under the booms, power distribution built into the chassis plates, a full foam protection shroud and a clean flat top for different sensor payloads/experiments.

Gaza07

Looking good have you made sure that when you connect the gps to the AIOP you have it connected to serial port 2       gps rx to aiop tx2      gps tx to aiop rx2 basicaly the rx and tx lines swapped over so they cross  ~~

I had trouble getting data from it on ubx, so I set it to NMEA (also in mpng config), it causes more bandwith but it works. from within u-center I had to fiddle with the protocol in and out settings, baudrate and explicitly had to save it to the eeprom. else it only relies on battery-backup

Is the green led blinking on your AIO? yes? it is receiving data, check the satcount and gps-status(i believe, status > 0 when connected and 3 when fixed) at the missionplanner status tab.
If the led is not blinking, the gps is not detected. there can be a few things wrong, rx-tx (try to swap), baudrate, you';ll find it in the mpng config, or the protocol (ubx/NMEA) mismatch

try using putty (google it ;) ) at the designated baudrate to see if there is any data from the GPS, NMEA should always give data like $P,NMEA,234234,234234,234234

If you have a fix and cut the power, it should imediately get a fix when you re-apply power within some minutes (dunno how long the batt-backup will last) else your cn06 could be faulty, or at least the batterybackup meganism

good luck!
