Looking good Balders.....

What Gimbal controller are you using with the RCTimer brushless gimbal ? Looks silky smooth !

It';s the RCTimer brushless gimbal board, often called a Martinez board.

hey balders video looks great. quick question for ya, ive got my rctimer gimbal working great software wise, only problem i have is its quite wobbly because of the rubber ';bellows'; . how did you stop it wobbling left to right? handheld mine works great and the footage looks awesome, on my quad there is no jello from vibes just it wobbles left and right because of the rubber mount! got some filming to do for some motorbike stunters on sunday and i want to try getting some aerial footage!

Yes, that';s a well known issue, the rubbers are far too soft.  Buy some firm ear plugs (the yellow tubular slow memory foam ones rather than the tapered softer ones if you can find them...builders merchants probably or similar) roll them into a sausage and stick inside the rubber bellows ad wait for them to expand.  It';s still not perfect but it will take some of the wobble out.

Couple more example video';s, one trying to keep things smooth and serene...you can see the slight wobble still caused by soft anti-vibe mounts, and the other SERIOUSLY throwing the hex around chasing some RC Cars...

So this is my rc-timer brushless gimbal setup on my hexacopter. Tuned just enough so its flyable, but I think there';s more to be had. Very very pleased with the result. There';s slight jello from the mount at startup, which I think I could tune out. I';ve yet to hook up the receiver to the mount yet - so its pointing straight.

Just a short test - bit of hovering, bit of fast flying and a near miss ;)

Looks like you got it working well going by how you see the motors bobbing in and out of the picture nice one  ~~  :beer2:

Yup, very pleased with it. Just dialed out that initial vibration too, I think. Next up - hooking up some pitch control from the radio, and then the video feed to the vtx from the gopro (yeah yeah, sorry folks it works for me ;)

Riggsbie

That looks pretty fine to me !

Good work, I am really interested in this thread as I have just ordered an RCTimer Gimbal and controller......

Balders

Don';t panic when you get it, if it seems frustraiting to get working, I was like that at first, wondering why everyone else was getting awesome results and mine seemed pants, you';ll get there with the help of the guys and girls on here.

Yup, I second Balders - I got loads of help from the guys on here and in the chat room.

I';d assemble it a couple of times first, and fettle - mine needed a bit of filing, and the grub screws needed a bit of tweaking. Then when I had it working, I diassembled and rebuilt it loctiting things.

I';m over the moon with the results!

Balders

I got approached to do some filming for an archaeological thing going on over here this week, so not the most exciting of subjects. Got a bit of a wobble to get rid of (soft bellows still I reckon) but not bad for a quick bit of filming:)

yes, thats a lovely piece of filming and landscape right there

you mentioned pitch control in a previous post and its working a treat by the looks of it, how are you achieving this? rotary knob on your controller?

My RCTimer gimbal arrived a couple of days ago, it';s now assembled, had a struggle finding a hex key small enough for the grub screws.....

What is the best way to power the RCTimer control board ?

Ta

rickp

Straight from your power-distribution board, or your main wiring loom - it copes with up to 6S....

Yup, knob on DX7S tied to aux 2 channel, feeds directly from Rx into the martinez board.

As well as this video I also took about 500 stills (1 per second, three different level flypasts) which the uni are going to push into some clever software they have which builds some kind of 3D map and triangulates the camera position based on features it spots in the image, so I';m really looking forward to the results of that.

Things all went a bit nuts last night, I got a load more followers on Twitter all of a sudden, turns out Jersey Tourism got wind of it and retweeted this video plus two of my earlier ones to over 7000 people.

Handed over the footage to the Uni guys today, and it was really nice, as they said "No one will have ever seen that angle before".  Exactly the reason I do this :)

Oh, I power my gimbal from a separate 800mah 3S incidentally.

"No one will have ever seen that angle before"

should be the motto of all aerial videographers

a good project to be involved with, I spoke to a nice chap yesterday from Bangor Uni over at their agricultural learning center, theyre thinking about using uavs to keep track of their crops and performance

bugger Ive got a straight DX7 and no spare channels :( might have to wait a few months until I get a hex sorted out

Thank you Jersey Tourism :)

Riggsbie

Congratz on you new found fame !

You deserve the recognition !

Balders

Made a kind of extension to my mounting point for the gimbal yesterday in an effort to remove props from shot.  Went to a local harbour and did some test footage, which came out pretty good.  Only a couple of times did I get a motor mount in shot.

Hi Balders

When you put the earplugs into the dampening balls did you have to cut them to fit and did you insert them in all the balls.

Thanks

Andy.

Balders

No Andy, roll them into tight sausages and insert quickly, let them expand to take up the slack.

Mine are still too soft, but so long as it';s not too breezy I just about get away with it, although suffer some wobliness from time to time.
