GPS non green LED when connected to Crius AIOP

I have set-up and flown successfully quads with KK2 boards but was rather frightened about venturing further into GPS until I saw advertised a quad all set-up with Crius AIOP and GPS. This was back in January. I took it out and the first flight it crashed, breaking a prop (which I replaced)
Last Sunday (first time out since) I flew the quad again (3 batteries),stable and altitude hold spot on.
When I attempted loiter it dropped onto the ground. On checking with Mission planner no GPS was detected and no green light on the board or GPS module.
On contacting my supplier he says that the cable is faulty (I don';t believe that!) I have been waiting for a new cable all week. I cannot say even if the GPS was actually working in January as it is too long ago and I didn';t get that far
Anybody any ideas as I am not getting any further.

Hi welcome to the forum..

Loss of GPS shouldn';t make it drop to the ground.. something else going on..

GPS can be lost for lots of reasons..  maybe it is just a faulty cable.. you will need to do some testing, but as I said .. doubt this cause the quad to drop to the ground..

Can you post some pictures  of the frame ?

Crius AIOP v1 or v2 board ?

Hi tedrobphoto and welcome to the forum what firmware are yourunning on the board I wonder if your problem is that you have the megapirateng beta installed that has the prblem with the motors cutting out, a little more info from you would be helpful  ~~

Is your AIOP V2 fixed directly on the bottom plate?

Apparently it can cause havoc with loiter and any compas functions, Peter king has this fix:-
Crius AIO Pro loiter compass error fix

and also:-
APM2.5 & Crius remove compass error completely

APM2.5 and Crius Loiter fix

Thanks, guys.
The software is up to date and correct.
I have replaced the cable with no change. The board is mounted well away from the baseplate. The machine is flying well, perfectly stable and controllable with good altitude hold until I switch to loiter. It is only then it drops.
I think, either the supply to the GPS socket is affected, or the GPS unit is faulty as I can';t get a green light showing power to the GPS. Something happened to the system when I first flew it and crashed.

Have you considered that if there is a short within or in the supply to the GPS unit, it would kill the power on the board?

tedrobphoto

To AM556
A possibility I suppose so I propose firstly plugging in another GPS unit that I was going to use for an APM2.5 board when I get some connecting cable. If that doesn';t work then the supply from the board MUST be at fault!

AM556

Ted, can you connect to Mission Planner, go to terminal at the top, connect and tell us what version is on the board?
Presumably there is a UBEC powering the board? Which pins is it connected to? Is there a yellow jumper (between pins 12 & 44)?

Hi Ted,
Which gps module are you using?
If it is a U-Blox unit then just try my firmwares first (2.9.1-addons is good) that will check if your Crius firmware is looking for the correct type of GPS.
For firmware settings and information files please see my public Google Docs folder:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-B7PQy0joGrUjFmb2pSTFlqcWc&usp=sharing
(Sorry wrong folder before).

Also take a photo of the GPS module and how it is wired to your board then we can check it is correct.

Once you have a green flashing LEd then the GPS will be fine. Just wait for a fix outside.

If you are using a Flamewheel quad type frame with the power lines in the bottom plate then mount the Crius board on the top plate. The hex is OK as the power rails go around the outside on that one.
