Fun Flyer

Hi all, another new poster with a question!
I've been and ardent RC aircraft flyer for many decades and a few years ago I decided to have a try at building a Drone from scratch just to see what it was all about.  The result was a 450 size Quadcopter. I fitted it with a CC3D Flight ontroller and loaded Librepilot.
The result flew far better than I expected and after a few tweaks was very stable in the air.  However other proects took over and the Quad was put to one side.
I decided to dig it out recently only to find that it just doesn't work anymore.  It appears to power up when the battery is connected, normal beeps and lights on the Controller and Rx but no response from the sticks.  The transmitter is talking to the Rx as if I plug a standard servo drectly to one of the Rx ports it responds as expected.
Has Librepilot jumped ship and needs to be reloaded?
All suggestions welcome.

SO quite legacy hardware and firmware then................   :D

Don't know what LP has regards configurator software, but basically the process would be to load the Configurator to a PC, connect the FC and look at the receiver screen first to see if stick moves affect the channel bars.

I'd advise against immediately updating the firmware, as you may run into hardware compatibility, configurator firmware matching, etc, etc.

Fun Flyer

Thank you for the reply.  I'm a bit of a legacy item myself!
Your suggestion seems like good sense. I'll try it.
If I were to replace the hardware and firmware, what would you recommend?

Bad Raven

Flight controllers have got quite dear in recent years. I prefer MATEK units, these are high end budget, if that makes sense!

You need to look for F4 controllers running Betaflight. There are F7 ones, these have more UART connections for things like GPS, camera control, etc. Overkill for your use, assuming you are going to fly it line of sight only, not FPV via goggles/screen/headset with lots of automation like return to home, etc.

I'm assuming you have ESCs on each arm for each motor?

Fun Flyer

Hi, I've done a bit more work on this but without much success!
First, to answer your question, yes I have fitted four ESCs.
I connected the FC to the PC and went through GCS process to configure the FC.
This went without any problem. However, when the process moved on to configure the Tx outputs nothing happened. It looks like the Rx is just not communicating with the FC.
If I connect a servo directly to the Rx it works, so the Tx is talking to the Rx.
Any ideas?

Bad Raven

Well, first you need to know what output format the Receiver has available.  If all you have are servo connections that might be only PPM.  If you have other outputs you (for examples) might be able to output Serial SBus or IBus.  Investigate the outputs your Receiver can manage.

Then the FC input from the Receiver has to match one of those available formats. You'll need to use whatever Librepilot configurator software your FC connects to to find this out and set it up.

Fun Flyer

Thanks for the reply.  The puzzling thing is that it was working perfectly before I put it to one side.
