You like risky flying places don't you     Nice location though.
Hope it was all OK after being plucked from the water!!
Don't know if you know but there is something called conformal coating that can be painted on to protect electronics from water. Not sure it works on full immersion but might be worth a look? Think I bought mine from Farnell.
I try :-)

relativenewbyseb

Yup makes it a little more exciting if I get a bit bored of the garden you see [emoji23][emoji23]
Plus it's down the footpath from right next to where I live so is easy
Yeah I'd be surprised if anything was good against a full soaking, but I'll have a look into it
Believe it's all good from on the bench but haven't proper flight tested it yet

very nice - apart from the end!

quite apart from the water, trees, etc. as hazards, I don't know how you were keeping LOS for the control/video RF for some of that.  :o

have you considered getting a set of these for the quad once it's dried out?

Well towards the extremities where I'd turn round at the different spots it was getting rather fuzzy, I'd tested it out very slowly to begin with as you can see that sadly leads to wobbly as heck footage

I can imagine those would come in very useful on its occasional but becoming more regular swim, apart from perhaps I'd have to mount a set on the top and bottom [emoji16]

So haven't done much flying recently with starting a new job, sport returning and the days getting shorter but managed to get plenty of bits of footage since the last time in some of the same spots and some new...

Sadly due to this my flying hasn't moved on that much but still is definitely better than the start, next thing is to find a location where I can try out some more 'tricks' or at least how to get some flips or a powerloop in as at the moment I feel I'm being a bit boring without going upside down :D

relativenewbyseb

Again not much flying since the last update but have been trying to tidy things up ready for some weekend flying if we get some nice weather
I had previously mounted the light strips along the edge of the arms and had 6 leds per each arm going all the way round, this was good as had plenty and they also pointed forwards aswell as down so very visible
However issue was the width of the arms was much less than the led strip so it either had to be folded over both edges or kept on getting moved about and unstuck whilst flying, both solutions also ended up in constant malfunctions with the lights after using it a bit where the connection would come and go

So sorted out a different method with considerably less but much neater install which I'm happy with
Tried two methods of fixing the wires in place with hot glue or electrical tape, not sure which I prefer really
But yeah excited to get out and have another fly after a long while

In other news my gopro session 5 no longer turns on and have tried everything, so that's just sat there being useless, shame I missed out on the gopro trade in deal that I saw they had going for a bit
Can't decide whether to source another session 4 cheap used or what[emoji848]

Bad Raven

Never had a true GoPro. I have a couple of Mobius and a couple of GoPro 4K clones, Oh and a SQ12 cube.

Assuming its like my clones, is it dead when powered from the USB?

relativenewbyseb

Just nothing from it, no power on USB or anything... was actually a replacement I bought off Facebook marketplace at the same time as accidentally winning a bid on one on ebay so had 2
So was selling it and on the day I go to send it out it just wouldn't turn on so had to send the one I was using, tried all remedies suggested and nothing so I've just got an expensive brick

What are all those options like in terms of quality of footage and robustness? My issue is I know I can get a session 4 for about 80 and its proven, when looking that's usually the price of the Caddx orca I think and those ones round that form factor but don't know how good they are?

Bad Raven

I have two anonymous clones. Both Banggood. Both now over a year old.

The later one has a front LCD, the former on screen menus/indication only.  Have not had any issues with either.

They both came with a big range of attachments and leads inc full waterproof cases which I have used for full immersion filming (not on a quad luckily!!!) and even that has been fine.

They seem to change model by the minute though, so I doubt they'd still be current.

The Qualima "cube" has also been good but its menu and indication system is harder to get used to.

Re: the waterproof case, someone asked me to film my tropical fish and shrimp tank, so I started as usual, but then suddenly "dived" over the top and into the water with them as I had the camera on a long carbon rod.

That created quite a stir on the facebook group!!  :D

relativenewbyseb

So, update
I foolishly, probably, bought a session 5 with a non working screen but that recorded with the intention of taking the screen from my dead one and making one...
Well did the hard part of getting them both open despite my lack of a torx bit the right size for the screws inside
Started fiddling around a little and getting ready to take apart after checking all the connections, then plugged them both into my laptop to check what was going on and my dead one is now working again[emoji28]
So I've now got two that record but one where I can't see the screen
Oh and both now have most likely non waterproof cases, but that's a small price to pay

Sounds like a great result. I seem to remember that you can do most things with the app. But can you get the password without a screen?
I try :-)

relativenewbyseb

Yes so there lies the issue, I can't connect my phone to it without the initial password, I'm gonna see if I can reset and then trace the steps from the other one to turn the WiFi on and get it synced with the app
Or just so I can make sure it's automatically on video mode then all I need to do is press the shutter as and when

But yes I now have one and a half from the half working and non working so I'm happy with that!

Got to decide what to use to seal back up

Been off here for quite a while mainly due to Tapatalk being crap and not working and it not being as easy on phone browser...
However had been doing a fair bit of flying until the bad weather, trying to practise some flips too which partly led to me needing to 3d print some parts and mounts and stuff. So yes I've made a new purchase to help me print some stuff😁
Unrelated however I've run into an issue with my flysky fsi6 transmitter whereby the swa has stopped working, doesn't register a movement in betaflight or on the screen when looking at channels... Thought it was a broken switch so replaced that tonight but still nothing... Then checked inside the casing and checked the connections and I'm getting no voltage across the switch?!
Anybody got any ideas why this is? And to add to that the redundant pin on that sides switches connection has voltage across it so🤔

relativenewbyseb

1st one  voltage

2nd one voltage

3rd one no voltage

ched

First thing to try is swap swA (2way?) with another 2 way you have in tx. Does the fault move with the switch or stay where it was?
I assume that you have looked at the tx screen that shows you the control values (horizontal bar graphs)?
Do they show swA working?
I can probably test the voltages on my i6 if it would help but it's in the loft so might take me a day or so to get at it?
I try :-)

So I replaced the 2 way switch as I thought that was the issue you see, no change and that's when I started testing voltages. So across the others they read around 2 volts I think
The photos are pretty rubbish but essentially before that ?resistor? There is a reading and after it at the pin(that goes to the switch) there isn't, yet there is on the unused pin (tbh I think this is because you can convert one of the 2 ways to a 3 way anyway with the i6)
Yep used the tx display and betaflight and no reading with old or new, very odd

ched

Not had that issue. I did drop a psu on mine and brake a gimbal and then I wore out a pot so it was drifting then jumping about on the traces. Luckily I had a spare from broken gimbal. Other than that it was a great tx, only changed as couldn't find decent small rx with good range.

Can't really think of anything else other than connecting swA to a different switch position on the board - maybe a sw you don't use if there are any? You might have to make wires longer? That way you keep a 2 way switch in the same pos as swA but it actually controls a different channel. You might find a new pcb on ebay or even a used tx? That said they are not that expensive new but always nice to repair something rather than throw it out - although good for spares?
I try :-)

relativenewbyseb

So I might have a go at the mod that adds another switch to it, and during that wire straight on to the terminal myself with another resistor to see if that one is just dead... Then I'll either get another switch or I'll be back to the original compliment 😁

relativenewbyseb

So I did the SWE mod at the same time as soldering swa directly to the terminal on the circuit board as opposed to going through the pin connection and I'm all sorted, so got an extra switch out of it which is nice 👌

Printed a few bits and pieces for this to try and tidy things up as I'm not that worried about weight if I'm honest.
So multiple iterations of the rear battery connector, GPS, buzzer holder got me to this:

And then this is my latest to hold the vtx in place on the standoffs:

Looks good, just make sure vtx gets enough air flow as they can get hot!!!!
I try :-)

badger1

very nice.  what are you using to design the stuff you're printing?

& +1 to what ched said about your VTx.  have you checked that the VTx doesn't melt the print? - they do get scorchingly hot!

relativenewbyseb

So far so good with the vtx heat wise, to be fair I'm very impressed with how cool it stays
I had a big crash a few weeks ago a reasonable distance away and it plummeted from some height, snapping the vtx aerial off at the adapter in the process... It managed to be sat there with no airflow for a good 30 mins and I could still see the picture without burning up so was chuffed at that!

Using fusion 360 for the cad as it's free and does the job for what I want, sadly can't get the software used at work or would be beneficial to learn at the same time as making some bits...

nice.  I had a play with it a year or so back & it looked pretty nice.  I'm sure I only barely scratched the surface, but I haven't really had a proper need to use it that justifies spending the time to learn it somewhat properly.  now if I had a 3D printer ...
