So today I went out with the TBS Discovery and the Hammer MHQ.   It is a blisteringly warm and sunny day here in Kent, with a strong breeze that made flight a bit challenging at times. Nothing too much though.

First up the Discovery. Sporting lovely balanced carbon fibre props I had several really great flights, first one LOS and three more in FPV. Checked out the mag and GPS using Loiter and RTL that worked flawlessly.  Also got buzzed by a small flock of Swallows - they seemed curious about this big black thing invading their space and came to take a look.  I held position and let them do their thing - it is their environment after all.  They got scarily close in my opinion but no doubt they were totally in control of the situation.

I popped in the next LiPo for one more flight, started to lift off in FPV and the Disco flipped.  The rear right prop had sheared one of its blades and it was game over.  No other damage done as it had not attained any altitude at all.  I do not know why the prop sheared - it was either poorly manufactured or I have overtightened the prop nut.   I can';t tell by looking though.

Next up then was the Hammer MHQ and much fun was had with that. Again the Swallows came to visit this strange screaming creature in their skies. I tried to outpace them, the Hammer is blisteringly fast, but the Swallows kept up with consummate ease.  They only left me as I dropped altitude sharply when moving the pitch stick further than I';d planned to ::)  Easily recovered but "exciting" nonetheless.

Five LiPo used up with the Hammer, including one demo FPV flight for a young couple and their son who took an interest. They really wanted to see the Disco fly but I didn';t have any spare props with me, so that didn';t happen.

It was a great couple of hours flying, I';m covered in dust from the prop wash when landing and taking off, as is everything I took with me.

Later I will replace the broken prop.

Hey!  Glad you';re getting some serious flying time in Danny mate, you deserve it.  Don';t forget to take plenty of footage on your hols, I';d love to see that place myself.

Been up the field to fly with my 1 battery. :(

Had a good 20 minutes of hard flying, few people stopped and asked questions, looked at the monitor and liked the views over the countryside and the sea.

Practiced some more turning, flew in a big circle FPVing. Was interesting.  :frantic:

If you can do that without a corresponding laundry bill then you have the necessary nerves of steel   I';ve (??) flown many Auto missions now, both on APM and now on Pixhawk.  It is fair to say that the bowels take a bit of a hit  :o until I see it landed and disarmed again

I was hoping to get out for an hour this morning. Then as I was just supping a cuppa before heading out the Sky box reported "No satellite signal" ... always a bad sign of what may come.  Now it is tipping down. I';d not have made it to the field ... Bah.  :cry

Oh well, there';s always next weekend ...

Bloody wind! Was hoping to maiden my new 650 sport today...

Tim2100

I flew this afternoon today.  I have just helped to establish a flying club for the local area for multi rotor and fixed wing.  Today was the first flying day at our field.  Very nice grounds the size of two rugby pitches.  I crashed and destroyed my color 250 quad.  Did some fixed wing chasing with my 500 white sheep frame, and flew my hastily rebuilt folder frame with it';s silly motors.   Very successful first flight.

Not today but went flying last Sunday.  thanks to the forum and prometheus';s summer Southern multirotor meetup, a few of us aranged an fpv race type meeting in Lymington, Hampshire.
Hats off to Tim b for acquiring the private field to fly in and construting the screwfix airgates.   Thank you!

In the end it was only 3 of us that flew, but it was epic.  Sadly ';forest'; was ill and couldn';t join us. Was looking forward to meeting him....see you next time

Anyway, we set about meeting to specificly fly our 250';s all at the same time fpv around makeshift track regardless of skill level,  just to try for ourselves.
Well it took a few laps to familiarise with the low level flying and techniques required, but made for a brilliant afternoon.
A few experiments to get good video channel separation and away we went.
3cell 250 is great but 4cell is immense and would definitely seem the way to go for overall satisfaction.  4slipo on order

Only Tim was running 4 s at our meet, and although a 3 s could keep up ish and tactically be better round corners it could never ever overtake ( as I discovered lol)

Well we had a really good time and something to build on for our next meet up ( pure hobbyist non competitive style - well until we';re all running 4s that is lol)

May the forum continue to provide a great way for like minded folks to have fun! Cheers

Little vid of our antics.  couple of accidental repeat clips due to last minute quick edit on a Sunday evening lol

I only managed 2 lipos worth at lunchtime before someone needed to use the field for it';s intended purpose! Still, dry again tomorrow and at the weekend currently, so hopefully should get some time out!
