Nice one  always a good day when nowts broken

Ahhhhh. Flew a cheeky pack this morning before work. Just a bit of hovering about in the garden. I';m TRYING to get as much stick-time in as I can now that things are beginning to come together.
It';s a bit tricky being a lefty and the extra time it takes for muscle-memory to set in. I spent the time forcing myself to do hovers at different angles so that I can co-ordinate my instincts regardless of direction.
I think it';s starting to happen now; I found myself feeling really comfortable at 45'; both sides and am totally at home in rate mode now whereas I';d have been trying to face nose out right away a couple of months ago - and wouldn';t DARE fly in anything but angle mode!

It';s a SLOW process but I really don';t care - the learning is just so much fun and I know I';ll get it if I stick at it.
The encouraging thing is that when I';m out on the field I get "cor you';re good at that mister" from kids. I suppose that ANY kind of drone flying where you';re not chewing up clods of earth look good

NEARLY didn';t take quads today to what is a club field at which conventional Helicopters (even scale) get funny enough looks, glad I did, as nobody else turned up (despite four staunch fixed wing people logging that they were going to be there online).

Brilliant weather, too.

So, three batteries through the 160 in rate mode, then a bit of fixed wing (an Eagle, to scare the local wood pigeons, then some hooligan delta wing flights) and then two batteries through the 250.  I have just pushed the angle up on the 250 Camera to cope with my increasing confidence at faster flying, and it was SO nice to see where I was going......  ........... till landing time   :blink  (don';t like that bit now all you see is sky)

I took my 250 down to the local field to test out a few pid tweeks Id done, I didn';t take my field laptop with me (which tbh is pretty rare for me) as I didn';t intend to do any video';s, just test the new tweeks.

sooooooo gutted I didn';t,

I got buzzed by the feckin red arrows in 6 plane low level formation, before they banked tight around came over again and sodded off toward Liverpool airport.

a proper once in a lifetime opportunity.

Tbf though I had literally only just lifted off and I shat myself so severly from the sudden flyby I probably wouldn';t have been able to get a good video anyway lol

Oh, where did that vTx signal go? Skip to the last 20 seconds if you';re not an Eagle';s fan. Just looking along, video signal just went, so disarmed and ditched it. Cue on broken gopro holder, but nothing else.

Not having much luck with that Riot are you?
We had one at the club I fly at where the complete battery tray including battery dropped out in flight  :o - you can guess the rest!!! But in all fairness Century UK sent the guy a complete new airframe - and guess what..... the biggest reason why was accompanying the email to Century UK was a video of the flight - gotcha

I like pushing my luck and I don';t always pull it off ::) My mate was filming so I';ll upload the vid soon. You';ll see from the vid that it was a hard double hit yet the damage is minimal. Tough old bird.

The Riot is a superb plane. I';ve had maybe 20 different planes over the last 3 years and the Riot is still my fave and the one I fly most often.

Didn';t even manage to get through one lipo! Only flown a few times and decided out of nowhere to try a flip. Didn';t end well! Cracked the top plate of the frame, ripped the vtx and the camera off. All 4 standoffs for the pdb/fc sheared off too. Oh, and a broken prop. Not my best flight.

nub

aww nightmare!

what went wrong with the flip, not enough height, rates to low or something?

hope you get her back in the air soon.

After the rain had stopped I went for a quick fly
On my second battery a head pops out the bushes then an arm then a hole person .were talking 3 feet high at the most
He then pulls a bicycle up then a sleeping bag a pillow .i have no idear how i dident see him ..
He just walks of then when he';s got a bit of distance
Looks back and shouts "you""you" like im the devil
Or somtimes..
I was only 20 feet away at the most and didn';t see him
He even had a mattress and some clothes he';d left behind .
Crazy now I have to check the bushes for people before I fly

Rates too low. I was just using default settings. Assumed (wrongly) that I';d be able to get a flip of some sort from the default rates. Apparently not!
Have played about with them since and managed to do a couple of flips/rolls. No way of recording so can';t post vids yet [emoji20]

Feck, that';s really unlucky, feel sad for your loss, keep going back to look for it !
That';s my worst nightmare loosing my quad. I bought a lost model buzzer about 3 weeks ago but still haven';t fit it,,,, I will now. I';ve had a few crashes though where the Lipo is ejected from the quad,  and I even use decent battery straps plus all my lipos are Velcro down to top plate to, just to keep them firmly in place. So it';s still 50/50 with an alarm (luckily all crashes on a flat field so easy to find).

Dam unlucky  :cry

That';s a problem with fpv And flying alone .....
It';s hard finding a quad flown line of sight and you no were it came down .

I have the same issue when the grass grows in the filed I fly in.

I started by recording where I walked in a app on my phone so that I am sure I don';t recover the same area twice while missing some areas,  helps when you really have no idea where it cam down.

Since then I have fitted a little GPS receiver and record though my googles,  In the case the the battery ejects I still can find it from the dvr recording.    I just enter the coordinates into google maps and it gets me within 10 feet.

Its cut my find and recover time down to 5 minutes now,  from 30 before...

4 packs today. The last two in FURIOUS wind! Took advice from folk on here about flying with the win towards me (see DJI flyaway thread) - brilliant trick. I must be starting to get something right at last because I felt completely in control all the time and didn';t lose orientation at all. that MIGHT be because was flying in contact lenses rather than glasses.

I even managed to get a tentative FPV flight as well. Getting some real confidence now. Rounded off the session by giving my boy and his friend a go on the fatsharks. They loved it!

More tomorrow hopefully.

At last managed some air time. i gave the Trifecter  4 batts until the tail servo jumped out of register while i tried a low loop :embarrassed.  The Titus 600 had a dam good rip around the field, managed 4 batts. The wind had increased by then so i gave the Fossil 280 a good mashing, it is very tolerant with short gusts, it dosent seem to affect it much apart from rapid height gain flying directly int the wind. I haven';t even bust a prop on it yet, when i have lost control i have hit the kill switch and its dropped flat.
