  • Reman: I did double check it with a metre (Mainly because I knew if I didn't check the polarity this would be the time the manufacturer had gone off script and put the negative in the middle of the coax) and felt slightly cheated because it was only making 19.7 volts. :)

  • Bad Raven: Well, it should! Rated for 24v. Be careful, have you checked the PSU output?  Many psu that (say) are supposed to be 12v actually output 16-18v. Is your 20v actually less than 24v??

  • Reman: Just modified the cable on a 20V 7A PSU to connect to my TS100........ It.... Erm..... Heats up a bit quicker than it did on 12V. LOL !!!

Watched first race today - WOW.
« on: May 27, 2018, 14:34:25 »
Managed to get an hr to go an have a look at 'fpv racing' today. WOW. It was at a local club in Blackpool who don't do multi-rotors!  I could spot the club members a mile off. they were the 'retired chaps' down at one end. It all seemed a bit 'clicky' so I only spoke to the club guys. The event organiser haden't even showed the club members any onboard footage. So I passed my goggles round and they were all amazed! It was the first time I have actually seen quads flying that wasn't me
The course was a complex one and it was a little windy but there were pilots with varying ability. I was quite surprised how many crashed before the first lap was complete. It seemed to be a 2 min session and if passing the finish line got another 30 sec.

It was great to see LOS and the angles and motor sounds but being able to hop onto anyone's freq and watch what they were seeing was really amazing.

Trying to get LOS filming was megga difficult, not easy at all to follow with camera.

I might get chance to pop along later for the final race but had some work to do in mean time.
I will try and get some images from cams later.

They did seem quite impressed with the flying and on-board footage. They did ask question so seemed interested. Although they did say they wouldn't be able to control them with fast reactions needed  ::)

They were much more friendly than the competitors. They seemed so engrossed in getting ready for racing they didn't seem to have any time time to chat  :(

Was great to watch though.
I also videoed some of pilots and their stick movements. Wow are they quick, and so little pitch or yaw movements! I will have to get practising   ::) ::)

Lol I told you it was a proper racing event mate, tends to get a mix of serious pilots and have-a-gos, heats usually thins it out.

While it was fun, I was surprised at how few pilots managed to get a lap in without crashing beyond recovery (turtle mode was in use a lot)! Even in the finals, only 1 or 2 pilots actually made the finish gate all 3 times!

Over hearing a discussion at the end between a competitor and the organiser it was said that the course was the most difficult they had all year and it was quite windy making it very challenging. Asking that next time it's this windy can they take a couple of obstacles out!

I was also surprised that more pilots didn't have their names on the OSDs they were using. Some of them just had the default 'FOXEER'

Was good to see the angles they were flying at and how little pitch control they were using, just lots of throttle movement and lots of roll with very minimal pitch.

It did seem well practised routine. As soon as race declared over, pilots out to collect downed quads and next set placing them on starting grid. Individual spotters per pilot to check all gates made plus a couple for checking general area. It did seem like something they had done lots of times.

It was great to watch, in fact I even went back to watch the final hr, which meant I missed last 30laps of F1 which I would never normally do  ::)
