I made up some spacers with just offcuts of polystyrene so it balances almost spot on.  The motors are not very powerful torque wise, so it helps to get the gimbal as close to balanced as possible mechanically.

Thanks, I guess I could move the pivot point too...

Rick you need to slide the camera cage right over so the pivot point is near the motor then balance it with the camera  ~~

Thanks Gaz - will give that a go. In the meantime, been having lots of fun with 3.0.1 on both quad and hexa - but ended the session with a puffed turnigy nano-tech *sigh*

Guys & Gals,

What is the best firmware to use ?  r77 or r161 or.....

Any starter values for the PIDS etc ?

Also what';s the best way to balance the gimbal ? Obviously there is a motor on one side of the gimbal, what is the best practice to balance this ?

The RC Timer brushless motors seem pretty big and heavy.......

Thanks

rickp

I';m using r161 and its working very well for me... I pasted my PIDs on another thread somewhere, but don';t have them handy at hte moment.

Guys,

Thanks for the great info here! Any experience with the latest v50 r207 version?

I made a youtube vid last year of my successful attempt to flash the Martinez 2 axis gimbal controller on a GoodLuckBuy 2 gimbal  - is is pretty much the same as the rc timer board.  In the youtube video description (you need to go to youtube website to read) I made a step by step sequence of how to setup the Martinez board so it works.

It is getting quite outdated now but still may be useful reference.

I might look into re flashing it again with the latest firmware and updating the step by step instructions.  I did it mostly for my own benefit ( I know all the instructions can be found if you trawl this thread) But was nice to summarise the steps for myself.  It was a bit of a head ache to work it out the first time and I don';t want to go through that again LOL.

Thanksmate I will check it too! ;)

I was thinking about get this gimbal as yours, but I need to make a custom gimbal frame, because I plan to use with the protector case of the GoPro and I plan to mount it to the front of the frame, not the bottom.

Is the any trick to avoid the horizon drifting?

Gav

Well I reckon like gimbal pitch you can connect a spare AUX channel from your receiver so you can override the pitch with a slider or knob on your transmitter, to point the camera up n down.  Simply do the same but for the gimbal roll and then you can tweak the horizon until it is level through the camera.

A1 A2 and GND pins on the gimbal board should connect to two of your receiver aux channels to override pitch and roll.  ( I think without checking )

found the attached on google

Thanks mate! At first need to make it work and then will be the tuning part... :)
