Hi all,

I recently got my first (and second, then third...) quad. Really enjoying it so far and finding it pretty addictive.

My name';s Thom, first quad I ordered was the MJX Bugs, though while I was waiting for it to arrive I was looking at videos and found Mr Steele, before the MJX had even arrived I ordered a Wizard to have a go at FPV. I';ve had a few flights, chewed up a few cables and a battery so decided to downscale and ordered a QX90C for indoor flying which has been a total disaster (props flying off which has damaged the frame on crashing, still in communication with Banggood to work out how they';ll solve it).

Currently my most used quad is my Wizard, running it with Tattu 4S batteries, a Flysky i6 and Eachine VR D2 goggles and I';m pretty happy with the setup.

I like relatively close to UKDS racing in Nottingham, still looking for good places to fly outdoors in the Notts/Derby area though.

Just thought I';d introduce myself, I hope you';re all having a good day!

Hi Tom, i am also learning on the Wizard it is a good bit of kit with a 4S.  From Essex here.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I';m enjoying the Wizard. I still need to pick up a soldering iron sometime so I can repair the scrapes it';s had! That';ll be my next adventure with flying.

Completely. I';m already drooling over a Taranis QX7, some better goggles (not sure if I want the Aomway Commanders or Dominator V3s yet) and a nice 3" quad, maybe a Youbi. Plus I';ll probably be looking for another indoor quad assuming I get a refund for the QX90C. So many quads, so little time! (and cash haha)

I don';t want to come across as fussy guys, but it';s Thom, not Tom.

betty

With which capacity? tattu 1300 or 1550?

Hi Thom. Welcome to the forum  ~~

I';m also based in Nottingham (Beeston) and fly near Sawley at the Long Eaton Model Aircraft Club site. I used to fly at the Weir Fields in Beeston, but there';s a sign up for By-Law 16 now....  :cry

If you fancy meeting up for a flight, let me know. I';m sure we can find a patch of land somewhere

This post';s actually a bit old now, I';ve been around a couple of months

I';ve found a park in Trowel that';s got some decent space and doesn';t have too much foot traffic. Not managed to get out there much so far though since as soon as everything arrived and I got it all working, the weather';s not playing ball. haha

LuMan

Heheh.. I did notice the original post was back in April, but felt a duty to be polite anyway!  ::)

Whereabouts in Trowel? I drive through to and from work, but stay on the main road, so not familiar with any parks. Is it the one near the footy pitch and railway line, close to Stapleford? I used to fly my old Java glider there years ago.

There';s also a club that meets up in the week at Woodlinkin (A610 near Codnor) but I';ve not made it there yet.

OK. Some one said 1300 for the light quad and 1550 for the heavy. How do you think?

Hey

I';ve got a couple of 1550s.

ThomRC

LuMan, I can';t remember the name of it, it';s off the main road behind a football field relatively close to Stapleford though, so it might be the one you';re thinking of.

betty, it';s personal preference. I use the 4S 1550mAh because I';m still pretty new so I like having the extra flight time for a little extra practice on each charge before I have to come in for a landing and having the best possible speed and agility isn';t a priority for me. For racing, I believe more people use 1300 because they';re lighter and you get that speed and agility because of less weight on your quad whilst still getting a few minutes of battery life.

When you say light quad, how light do you mean? If you mean smaller than a 5" propeller, you might want to go even smaller than a 1300, like a 1000 or 800. It';s all preference though.

Yep, top of Pit Lane. There are a couple of big fields there, too, but I don';t know who owns them. As the weather improves, I may drop by on my way home from work for a quick blast  ;)

Pit lane sounds right!

Yeah I need to look into the fields too. If you walk along the path straight and don';t go over the bridge, there';s a field down there on the left that looks like public access after you';ve gone down the steps. I';ve not explored properly to see if it';s public or not to fly in yet though. It looks like it would have less traffic if it is public though.

betty

Wow, you are now more experienced than what you said in your first post.

:laugh:Thanks! I';m glad I come across that way. I';ve spent quite a bit of time looking into things, the learning is almost as much fun as the flying!

betty

Yes, I think the supreme happiness of flying RC is the conviction that we can fly.

It';s a drug, Thom!!

I started with a tiny little Cheerson X10 and then decided to build an S550 hex! No interim build to get the hang of it - straight into a bloody great AP rig! Took me about twice as long to build as it should, but I loved every step and learned sooooo much!

Looking at an 800 foldable rig now... Once I finally get around to building my Robocat and Ghost 250.....
