Apart from making miners lamps I am also surveyor, for my sins.
I am looking for a drone to carry my gopro hero 4 for roof inspections, any thoughts on a good starter model would be much appreciated.

Hi,
:welcome:

So you need to be very aware of the Laws with regards to Small Unmanned Arial Vehicles (SUAVs)

The following seem VERY relevant:

1. It is illegal to take off or land within 30M or fly within 50M of a person STUCTURE or livestock without permission.

2. Using a SUAV for commercial reasons (and that includes a beer from your mate for doing an inspection of his roof or any sort of renumeration) requires permission from the Civil Aviation Authority, that requires you to be a qualified (for UAVs) pilot, and a submission with appropriate risk assessments, flight plans, ops manuals and liability insurance

3. There are no fly zones, plenty of maps of these

There are also, in my experience, a lot of the general public who consider machines that fly to be witchcraft and their operators should be burned at the stake. They are more than willing to call the police, see 1, 2 and 3 above

The answer to your initial question though is probably looking at a phantom as a bare minimum, it would be better to have a hex or octo quad for obvious safety reasons but something with GPS flight plans, easy controls, possition and alt hold and a separately controlled gimbal is the bare minimum of what you are after

Hi Protectorlamp
I used to make the miniature models of the davey lamp although that was some time ago, my dad used to own and run P Collins Engineering,
