Thanks to the help from the board, my quad is working quite well now.

The P was waaaay high by default for the alti holds  (4.0). I ended up with around 3 for alit, and 3 for throttle.

I made it with some cheapy DJI naza type motors, and cheap hobbyking ESCs, but the thing has HEAPS of power.

So much so, I stuck a quick video up:

0-1800 feet in 30 seconds.

0-2000 quadcopter

I think I was about at the limit of the transmitter reception there - so probably need to do something better with the rx aerials to extend the range.

Its much more agile than the NAZA. While it';s never going to be as stable for video - it is remarkably vibration free (at the moment thats the go pro stuck straight onto the frame). Next up - the 433 radio kit installation.

Yeh, but stopped there as it was getting tricky by then and difficult to even correct direction

Just done in the edit with the raw gpx data from a GPS strapped to it in final cut.

sorry, I';ve had to take video down guys.

I posted it to one of the US rc groups** and they all went mental telling me I was an idiot, illegal flight, people like me should be banned bla bla. various personal insults.

The flight was completely within the UK ANO for RC flights (summary: >150m build up area*, >30m from nearest person, in uncontrolled airspace, flown with line of sight (not FPV). It was taken in good weather, clear viz, and I had various safe guards in place in the event of failures to minimse risk to people of property. I also have full 3rd party liability through the BMFA.

Maybe it';s different in the USA, but of course none of them even bothered to ask where it was flown.

You can';t win with the idiots, so I thought I';d better take it down before they started downrating my other videos just out of spite, delete the forum from ones I contribute to, and move on - getting into arguments with these sort of people is a waste of my time . numpties.

Once its all blown over, I';ll probably put it back up on youtube- don';t like being strong handed by morons. But for now, it';s down.

thanks again.

A shame - i would have liked to have seen that video.

Personally i feel that if you know the air space, you could still see it, and if you weren';t flying over houses, roads or a built up area, you';re fine.

Sorry to hear that Stu but rcgoups are quite well known for this kind of online bullying and soap box stars that think they know it all, its the main reason I rarely post there any more  ~~
It is an excellent source of info but also has more than its fair share of bullsh*t  :beer2:

Hi there,
Sorry about the probs you';ve had on RCG, but could it be the altitude problem? Uncontrolled airspace or not, I think the limit is still 400 feet AGL.  That';s always been our interpretation of it anyway, as we always apply for a temporary cert from the CAA when we want to do aerotowing, and most people aren';t happy with less than 800+ ft aero tows with 1/3 scale gliders :)  That';s in uncontrolled airspace too btw.

I just read some of the ANO, and it seems that the 400ft rule is only really applicable to aircraft over 7kg - no mention of height limits for lesser weights.  I think the fuselage alone on my tug weighs at least 7kg, so that';s why we apply for it :)  As you were then!

yup, it';s only if over 7kg. Under that, no restrictions other than line of sight (so limiting you to 2 or 3k max realistically (quad only weighs 1.2kg)

Where I flew, up to 2.5k is class G so perfectly above board.
