Cleanflight and D4R-II Telemetry?

So I have a Naze32 Rev5 and a D4R-II and I';m about to wire them up to give me telemetry back to my Taranis, but I';ve found 2 ways of doing it :hmm:

First is the Rx and GND wire from the Rx to the Telem pins.

Second is the Rx wire from the Rx to PIN6.

Which is the best option?

Cheers
Paul

i use the pin 6 method seems to work well

RC6 is soft serial, which is good because its always talking whereas the telemetry pins only work when armed. softserial is a bit more processor hungry though but unless you';re trying to run low looptimes with other things going on as well such as luxfloat, addressable leds and accelerometer dependant modes etc then it wont matter much.

it just makes sense

Thanks for the heads up ~~

I think addressable LEDs come out of pin 6 too? You can';t have soft serial telem and LEDs running at the same time. You can';t even select it on the config tab.

very true.

there is a 3rd option with a d4r which works well if you only want voltage and rssi telemetry which is to build your own voltage divider (or buy one for under £2) and connect it to your A2 pin on the side of the rx. this works independently of your flight controller and is always on as well. this means you wont get low voltage beepers on the naze but you will get your voice warnings via taranis after you';ve set the radio up. I use them a lot on all model types as all I really want telemetry wise is voltage and rssi

You know what, I';ve set up telemetry, taranis call outs etc. And I still think the most reliable, easy but uncool solution is a low voltage beeper.

All I want is to be able to monitor lipo voltage, plus I';m adding a buzzer to the Naze32 as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have a Taranis and fly a few different models/types and found it was a hassle setting up telemetry all the time.
Hobby King had a special on the  Quanam Telemetry thingy so I bought 2, one for me and one for my mate. They work much better than I thought. We both use them on everything now.

They were only $7 but they have jumped up again now. Also comes in 2 different frequencies depending on your country but either is unlikely to cause any problem as range is only a few hundred feet or so. They work much better than those nasty LED / Beeper things and are very accurate.

I have D4R-II, up to date Cleanflight and Taranis -Plus. I am using a brand new 10 DOF Naze 32 Rev 6. I have tried the "Old" Frsky way of getting Telemetry and the new Soft serial using the green wire alone on pin 6 trying both telemetry_inversion. I can see Batt Voltage in Cleanflight in both methods ( proper tabs etc done according to all the videos etc...) and RSSI BUT nothing else....no AccX, AccY or Vfas on the Taranis even after a long time to allow "discovery" of the sensors. Questions are:

1) Does the newer Rev 6 Naze need to use telemetry inversion and if so, why does it make no difference at all?

2) Do you have to jump pins 5 and 6 or just use pin 6 alone from the green wire on the D4R-II?

Thanks!

Elmattbo

Have you armed the naze yet? Telemetry only transmits when it';s armed using the old way. That frees up pin 6 for leds!
