No, you need to wire the signal pin from the receiver to both RX and TX of UART3.  Ground is optional if you';re already receiving ground as part of the SBUS chain.

I';ve soldered my telemetry wire straight to the Tx pad, so in theory I could just bridge the two pads with solder and this would be the same as using a cable similar to the one in your linked thread.
