Help needed with 9x to er9x firmware flash.

Hey all, I';m flashing my Turnigy 9x with the er9x firmware and i';m having a few problems and i';m hoping a fresh pair or pairs of eyes can help.
I';m using the USBasp programmer from HK.
eepe software, latest er9x fw.

Wiring on the 9x v2 chassis:

Error message i';m getting:

The connections are as follows:
pin1 brown Mosi.
pin2 red vcc
pin3 not connected nc
pin4 not connected gnd
pin5 green reset
pin6 not connected gnd
pin7 purple sck
pin8 not connected gnd
pin9 white miso
pin10 black gnd

The eepe software gives me the same error message weither the 9x is plugged in or not but i';ve checked all the connections and they all seem to be correct. I';ve used this wiring configuration:

I';m hoping there is something you can see that i';ve missed. The Tx powers up from the programmer, the orange cap was removed (as you can see in the picture) from the reset line as suggested on an open source forum...makes no difference, it';s now been reconnected. I';ve ordered another programmer to ensure it';s not a problem with the progreammer.
I get the same error message if the 9x is or isn';t plugged in to the programmer.
HHEELLPP!! Please. :cry

It could be the programmer then, or it could be the software you are using.

Try this software instead;

It works well for flashing ESCs for me;

and i am pretty sure it';s what i used back when i did my transmitter.

hmmm, came up with the same error message:
Flash the firmware file.

Z:\Quadcopter FC board\KK flashing\Flash tool 0.70 stable\lib\avrdude\windows\avrdude.exe -C Z:\Quadcopter FC board\KK flashing\Flash tool 0.70 stable\lib\avrdude\windows\avrdude.conf -p m48 -P usb -c usbasp -B 8 -e -U lfuse:w:0xe2:m -U hfuse:w:0xdd:m

avrdude.exe: set SCK frequency to 93750 Hz
avrdude.exe: warning: cannot set sck period. please check for usbasp firmware update.
avrdude.exe: error: programm enable: target doesn';t answer. 1
avrdude.exe: initialization failed, rc=-1
             Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
             this check.

avrdude.exe done.  Thank you.

Error during setting the fuses.
Flashing of firmware aborted.

Bummer.....

Some things to check:

Are you sure all solder joints are ok, no little spatters of solder causing bridges.

Did you load the latest driver for the programmer, what about java is it up to date, I seem to recall it did/can cause problems. IIRC I had to update when I use dthe tool to flash my ESC';s.

My device appears as libusb-win32 devices
USBasp
driver date: 08/04/2011
version: 1.2.4.0

Have you chosen the right programmer.
In eepe check under burn pulldown, configure:

programmer is usbasp
mcu = m64
port = usb

Does the programmer light a green led when connected to the usb port.

I';ll be able to help more tomorrow evening if you are online.

Thanks for the advice. Turned out it was the length of the ribbon cable between the programmer and the 9X.
Flashed with no problem once I cut it down.
Step by step instructions to follow...Works full on so haven';t got time until the weekend to compile all the information and links.
Thanks again Ian.

Really glad you got it working, can be a real PIA working with a few unknowns at once and trying to debug  ~~.

Guess I hit lucky with mine, I used an old cable from a pc, rather than some coloured ribbin cable, trimmed it to suit where I was leaving the connector in the battery compartment and it worked first time  :cool:.
