I had a nice surprise yesterday and even better one today when this arrived:

It's one of these.

I will post the full story in a proper thread: https://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=24318.0.

The Banggood info states recommended prop is 2.5", but then states they provide 2"..............

It's another of BG listing errors!!!! On the listing it also says Gemfan 3025! On HGLRC site it has exactly same wording 'Gemfan 3025 2Inch 2-Blade Propeller'.
It came with 3025 bi blades but after fractionally over 1 min I crashed into the gravel and broke a prop.  :o I had inadvertently selected rate profile 3 which wasn't set up!!!! Thats my excuse
So I did have some 2.5" tri blades so gave them a go and works well. When I next make an order I will either get some 3025 bi blades or I might go 3028 tri blades???? It's certainly nippy and agile. Not sure I like 16:9 camera though although was better when switched goggles to 16:9. Nice colours and light handling though.
I try :-)

Sweet Pickle

Gave in and have a Tango 2 pro coming today.
Didn't want to, but convinced myself that I simply couldn't fly with my Taranis any more, it's so last year.

My crushed box was new motors. Ohhhh shiny

Out with the old an in with the new.

Well, today the nice girl from DPD brought me a Mobula 7 HD and four extra batteries.

Having flown all five packs through it, I'm sort of wishing she hadn't!

Firstly, its a bloody whiney noisy tinny sounding thing, a penetrating noise that sounds like a straight cut gearbox on a Mini (showing my age !), far noisier than the Tinyhawk Freestyle or Race, for example.  OK, its ducted, but its far noiser than several of my ducted 75-105's. Subjectively the Hawk 5  on Dalprop Folds is far quieter and sounds smoother. NOT good when most use would be garden while not annoying neighbours.

Secondly, the image sent to goggles isn't very good. Yes, I know the HD is only on the onboard recording to SD, but its pretty darn carp, tested on two systems that I know work well usually.  Again, far worse than the TH's.

Its a battery chewer, too, well under 3.5 mins for a 75 on 2S 300mAh HV while just cruising around, which looks the max size that will fit the cage (and that only just!).

Talking batteries, with the Mob 6's being too loose fitting into their frame cage, they have gone the other way and these are over tight. I'm going to leave a battery in the holder to try to relax it.....as long as it does not crush the battery, which it feels capable of.

Its nowhere near as capable of dealing with wind gusts as the TH's unless kept fast

I was flying the TH Race this morning at the field in around 15mph gusty swirly wind and it happily breezed through it all with no sideways swerves or sudden erratic lift/drop, BOTH of which the Mob 7 suffers from in spades (and in lighter more sheltered conditions).

Oh, and the video aerial (grot short piece of insulated wire) was installed tight between frame and PWB sticking into the bay so blocking the battery, and a devil of a job to re-route elsewhere without dismantling the boards from frame, risking ripping it off its PWB.

As long as its kept well on the move its nice enough to fly but after the two Mob 6's, one of each kV, which are both very good, its a pretty big let down so far.

NOT recommended at ALL.

Good to know BR. What's the recorded footage look like?

Have not flown with a card in yet, the afternoon/evening forecast monsoon season started!  I'm also short of SD's (AGAIN!!) as one has corrupted ands says its way bigger than the 32Gb it is, AND a new one decided to go "write protected" (which micro SD does not inherently have of course!) and all known means have refused to unlock it. Two new ones should arrive tomorrow, save me taking something offline.

One reason I got this quad was to do what Bardwell has shown detail of in a video and set it up for 3D (put the camera flat which unlike a lot of quads looks easy, modify ESCs to dual direction and set Betaflight to 3D).

I'm an OK basic moves 3D Heli pilot and long experinced fixed wing pilot so inverted and the ability to descend fast in moves or ascend fast while inverted is an attraction!

Today I had 3 new Turnigy batteries, a bit lipo bag and a bunch of consumables :D

MORE a "what was brought yesterday and has wasted my time today", but hey..............

Now I'm flying FPV a lot, the 1800mAh 2S goggles batteries I had were not enough capacity.  SO, a while ago I bought a MyLiPo.de "Fatshark Type" 3300mAh.

After a slight delay while I made up an extension to fit the rear headband mount (the supplied batteries having this built in), I got it working but found it wasn't much more use as it sagged voltage quickly. OK, maybe a faulty one, and I had left it charged.

I bought another, which arrived yesterday, and on its first 1C charge while being closely monitored, it got HOT and I do mean HOT.    Taking it rapidly off charge, I found it was showing only 63% charge and a balanced 3.95v per cell.   :sweating:

This is when it got interesting!

The UK Dealers website data, transposed from MyLiPo info, stated Charge at 1C=3.3A

The original German website had no English offering, but translated by Mr Google stated the same, Charge at 1S=3.3A. HOWEVER, three lines above it stated max charge 1.65A. (possibly translation error and meant to be discharge limit??)  :blink

SO, I found out the actual makers of the 18650 cells used, and on their (Korean) website, in English, it very clearly stated maximum charge 1.25A.  It also stated max voltage 4.20 +/- 0.005v  :o

At this point its worth mentioning that the original seller is clearly transposing for most people's std LiPo charger use onto a L-ion construction pack as 18650 are not LiPo.

The pack once cooled was balanced fairly well, so today I charged it at 1.25A, and it completed well balanced at 4.16v in about the time elapsed expected.

HOWEVER, in use with the std power plug into the goggles (and with a BATTGO monitor on the balance port), it was very evident that all was not well.   The voltage of cell 1 was dropping at around twice the speed of cell 2. Starting 6mV out, in a very few minutes it was 283mV out and climbing, then the goggles shut down.

I re-charged and repeated this on a headset, to the same result.

I then went back to the first pack, WHICH DID THE EXACT SAME SAG only on Cell 1, but even faster.

 :hmm:  :hmm:

That's not good. Anyone less careful about charging might have had a fire!!! Have you contacted the company?
I try :-)

the postman (well, FedEx) has been.  they have given my delivery to one of my neighbouring flats, but can't tell me which one.   useless berks.

Not multi rotor related but interesting for me at the moment!
A nice Picture of Adult painting by numbers of a Sunset scene on a proper canvas and with proper oil paints that I might sling and use my own acrylics. Still sorting through my stuff from 2/3 years ago to see what I can put together, probably going to be a small light Tricopter, I've got 2 frames, lots of assorted motors and esc's and a couple of FC's including a KK2 mini so something should be possible however crude it might be
Been to hell and back with my health, now big Pharma drugs free and on the mend and can't wait to get back in the saddle!

Bad Raven

So, on the day when I get the Mobula7 HD flying again after its FC wipe out, through from Banggood ( from China in less than a working week, normal shipping choice, and tracked Royal Mail post!) comes ..........

..... an Eachine Trashcan rear four LED unit (its the same frame) and some red props, to improve LOS orientation and my spotters experience.

The Mob7 HD is transparant Black and normally all four props are the same, and it comes with no rear LED. Unwanted Stealth!  :banghead:

Black front props, red rear, will help.

It HAS a single LED, but that faces flat upwards, is used for arm/battery state, and has the brilliance through the trans black (can we say that these days??) canopy of an ageing glow worm. It is also as default red for disarmed and green for armed, completely arse about face to my thinking, that got altered day one!

Another job for later this evening..............

Not had anything for ages but had a nice box from HobbyRC today.
Six new 4s Tattu Rline packs to replace the 6 puffed ones i binned last week  :-/
an ISDT BatteryGO battery checker & some RX whiskers to replace the ones that got eaten 2 weeks ago  :whistling:
In for a penny, In for a Grand!

Bad Raven

I had an order from HobbyRC today, too.

Some 130/260C 4S 1500mAh GN3's
A Matek Hub/VTX
and a couple of VIFLY Beacons.

I fired one of the beacons up and the LED wasn't facing fully away, but it wasn't facing AT me either, but I was still blinded for a couple of minutes!!.

Reminds me of my scale MD600E that is fitted with a four LED front searchlight, that is one machine you do NOT hover nose in, even in bright sunlight!!

badger1

I had an order from HobbyRC today too.

5x EMAX 2306 1700KV motors - yay!

Yesterday four packages from Banggood, inc some transparent heatshrink for Rx and a CADDX Ant Camera.

Today?  A book  "Terror in the Starboard Seat"  41 trips in a D H Mosquito (in WW2)

sh0wtime

Ah i need to remember to get some clear heatshrink. used black on my last 2 quads which wont help LED checking if i have a problem

seems quite nice - I prefer the Mobius-type form factor to GoPro-type as it'll probably get used on FW too.  haven't taken any flight footage yet though.

I'm really disappointed by the WiFi though:

1. it only works in AP mode
2. it only works with a phone app
3. it only allows for configuration, not for file download

how easy/nice would it have been to make it work in client mode so you could turn it on, have it join your home wifi, then pull your videos off over smb/https from your laptop?

sigh  :(

I may have to have a poke with nmap & see what ports are open  ;)

How would you tell it your wifi password?
Must admit that file cope over wifi is so much better an idea than taking an sd card all the time.

there's an OSD mode you can put the camera in to configure it, like you would with a RunCam FPV camera.  you don't get the little joystick, but you can configure various things - recording resolution, etc.

or you could configure it one time in AP mode to give it your WiFi details & then change it to client mode.  since they've gone to the trouble of putting in - presumably - an embedded linux server & wireless ethernet card, it seems like a shame you can't use it to copy the video files off the camera.

Grabbed myself a Insta360 Go to compliment my Hero 7 Black, impressed with the quality just need the rain to bugger off.

Flew yesterday and today.  The wind today was interesting, with some extremely fast (ground speed) downwind runs.  Noticable that the wind and lower temps are reducing durations.
