Zippy or Nano Tech

I know similar questions have been asked but if you were in the market for new batteries for your 250 quad, flying with a Go Pro and with intentions of fitting FPV equipment to it at a later date would you buy:

1.  Zippy Compact 1300 40c?

2.  Turnigy Nano-Tech 1300 40-90c (although some bad experience with 2200s ';puffing'; in the past on my Trex 450)

3. Consider another alternative - suggestions please? For example could I get away with 1500s @ a c rating of 35c or 40c?

nanotech are far superior to zippy lipos in my opinion, i was using the 1300 45-90c nanotech,they worked great but when i started pushing my quad flight times were only 4mins and i was putting around 1500mah back into them, needles to say they didn';t enjoy it. don';t know if i should get the 1300';s again and keep weight down and reduce flight timesor go for some 1800';s.

either way stick to nanotechs

I prefer the nanotech to the zippy, after s year the nanotech are fine ) flying 3 times or more a week during the summer)

The remaining zippy is fine (the other one for bent in a crash) but even with my mediocre (at best) skills you notice the lack of power with the 35c ones anyway.

I have some 40 to 50c zippys waiting for collection which may be a bit better but where only bought because I couldn';t get any nanotech in reasonable sizes

I tried compacts ..but they didn';t last long and a load test on my charger showed capacity and c rating was "exagerated" when new

Quite fancy giving the overlander 1600 30c  a go , bit more expensive but I recon there quoted c ratings might actually be true unlike hobbyking claims. Its also pretty light at 125g

Anyone know of a descent gens ace size for 250 quads , there 2200 packs are very good.

Zippy compacts here 1800mAh 35c

I Don';t think they';re the best but work for a decent 5 min flight time and so far, they';re holding up.  Also got a couple of Rhino 1750mAh for my ls250 with fpv cam only, no recording cam so it';s very light. 7mins flying time.

Nano techs provide a good punch and rapid charge time but will degrade rapidly with a sudden power drop once they have had enough, from what I';ve experienced.   Cheap enough to replace I spose,  when you notice obvious power drop off.

I bought a 1500 Nano at Christmas and a 2200 in January. After 1 charge each both started to puff up with the 2200 being the worst. They are now both bloated and have only had about 20 flights each. They are 35/70 C rating.
I bought 2 Zippy 2650 batteries 4 years ago that show NO signs of puffing but are starting to lose top charge a bit.
I just bought 2 new Zippys 2200 40C and they seem to perform best in my planes and quads.
Zippy compacts also puff up very quickly.  I have 5 about 2 years old that are puffy but still charge up and perform well.

My choice from now on is Zippys but high C rating.

I';m almost entirely on nano-tech now. 1300 3s 45-90, 1400 3s 40-80 and 1800 4s A-spec. Never had a dud and they always deliver the c rating. Saying that, my one ZC is also great. Both the NTs and ZC have very little swelling under high load.

I';m using some zippy 1800 40c 4s on my 250, they seem to perform well but 2 of the three have puffed up quite a bit despite not that much use, they still charge and perform as well as the non puffed one but it';s not ideal....

I';m going to try nanotechs next as flyinghippy uses the 3s 1400 40-80c ones and they seem to have loads of punch.

I';ve only really used ZC';s on all my multi';s now for past couple of years, all good so far.

N.B Obviously for hammering them, the highest c rating you can get hold of, else they do get a bit hot & puffy!  THere are probably better brands for extreme use, racing and so forth, but for allround price/size reliability, I don';t think they can really be beaten.

Thanks for all the replies. It seems we all appear to have mixed experiences with both Zippy';s and Nano Techs. Suppose it';s time to give the Nano';s another go but have to say been really impressed with the Zippy';s so far but they don';t do a very high c rating which with the trade off between power and weight to use my GoPro I';m guessing the Nano';s will be more suitable.

I think my one ZC may be dying. I';ve been out this eve with my mates F450 powered by my 2450 35c 4s, which is rated at 85A constant. This F450 draws 42A and after only 90sec in the air that 42A took it to 2.9v/cell according to the logs.

It flew for 12 mins so it';s not like it was flat. I';ll have to do the same with my 2600 4s A-spec and see what happens. Both batteries are the same age (~1 year) and had similar use.

Yeah, that';s why I';m more in favour of ';real world'; use than charts and logs & stuff, sure mine dip down voltage wise when pushed, but still give around the same time as they did a year or so ago, and also being stored in an unheated garage all winter, fully charged. If I got worried about the voltage drop on some of my lipo';s, I would have binned loads of perfectly good ones!
It';s all about gaining confidence in the kit you use, so when you find a combo that works, stick to it.  It';s also another reason why battery alarms and low voltage protection systems are unreliable.
