rx aerial extension?

Can I put an extension lead on my fatshark rx so I can put the aerial on the roof and sit in my car to fly?
Or is an extension a bad idea?
Can you buy them or do I need to buy cable and connectors and diy?

a lot of people use tripods to scoot their vrx up a bit then use extension leads to their goggles so yes it can be done quite easily.

You could always construct an extendable, portable mast.  THen, you would take the signal from the ground-to-air Vrx and route it to a second vtx (set to opposite end of the VTx ch range), which in turn sends the signal to your goggles.  Ideally, the ground-to-air bit would be 2.4 ghz, but that';s only possible if you use UHF to fly your craft with!
It has the two-fold benefit of not only flying from inside cars/buildings, but also greater range, as the main Vrx would be well above the ground.  I plan to utilise this system later this year (when I';ve finished the million and one ';other'; things I also need to do, multi-rotor unrelated that is!).

The benefits of having some height and stability of your receiver and antennae should compensate for any degradation. You could also work this using 5.8ghz stuff on both main and repeater systems using different channels and polarisations. Right hand on main system and left hand on repeater.

Well, the technical answer is yes, of course the more you process a signal..But, I believe, it';s not really that noticeable, and any lag would probably be less than using a Gopro for fpv cam anyhow.  I plan to test it myself, as I say, later this year, as there are, I believe other benefits of using this system, in that it puts some separation between your radio gear and the main ground to air system, and also, you no longer have to stand next to it, as it could even be on top of a building etc!
