Hi again to all

I have the Align M690 and have tried the Taranis radio but basically it ain';t having it so after 3 weeks of pratting about time to get a better radio setup  I am stuck between the Graupner MZ24 and the Futaba SG14 I need around 12 channels for what I am doing and it has to be on Sbus.

I would be grateful of any help on the one to use.

GdLookinMingeR

What is it that just isn';t having it ?

If your getting rid of the Taranis let me know  ;)

Cant see what issues you would have please give us a bit more info

Hi
The Taranis is by far the best radio you can get for the money, when I got mine at first it was very difficult for me to get my head around the programming of it. With help from the guys on the forum I got the hang of it, I am over the moon with its performance now and I wouldn';t change it. I have a Spektrum Dx6i and a Dx7 sitting in the cupboard now.
If you need help just ask on the forum.

Hi
The Taranis won';t communicate on Sbus with the APS-M in the Align M690 its all over the place when you try to set up sticks and switches if you move say left aileron you get failsafe switching on and off gps on an and off etc.
it works conventional but I don';t have enough channels.

I was about to ebay the Taranis shame as the features, channels etc are great but I need to sort out the coms problem

coffee man

Is anyone using the Taranis on an Align multirotor using Sbus? and if so what settings, firmware etc.

Empee

I have my Taranis working on S-Bus on my Leap 3D Quad. When I get home I can send my Epee over.

I am in Birmingham if youre close for a tinker?
This is getting expensive!

That might be an idea, I am in Stourbridge so not a million miles away

Well that';s not very constructive is it! at least I was trying to get a a cheap Taranis
because "he thought it doesn';t work"....

Glad MP66 chipped in with the Eepe  ~~

Just had a thought though would my 9x eepe file be compatible with the taranis  ?
Does any of you peeps know ?

The Taranis may still be going as of yet it still is not working and I still can';t get an answer to the problem, I can';t be the only person in the world using a Taranis plus on an Align multicopter, there are hints in other forums saying if the Taranis is not working then nothing will work ..... but it does not work on Sbus with my M690 so it may be ebay time.
I will have another run through later today and a few phone calls.

I have an 8Fg and sbus rx or a  DX8 you can try.. or even do a swap.  I use my Taranis for everything now.

Re: GdLookinMingeR

I am still trying different things, I had seen the youtube vid the problem is that going conventional onto the Align fc there are only 7 channels for input and I need 10 possibly 11

This is why I need to get the S-bus side of thing working still looking

coffee man

Re : MP66

it may be an option to try with the Futaba but I would need to sort a S-bus receiver, it is awkward as I don';t mind too much buying another radio setup but I need to know that it is all going to work 100%

I will load the file and try it this morning time permitting.

a phone call or 2 to be made first

You can purchase a Delta multibrand receiver which is cheaper than the Futaba ones.

Why so many channels ?? please explain what your trying to control ?

Just looked at the align manual so even on traditional receiver mode you can only use 7 channels

This is my switch layout on my turnigy 9x
A
E
T
R
Aux 1 3 position mode switch for flight mode 1= attitude  2= gps 3 = manual failsafe selection
Aux 2 gear switch retracts up / down
Aux 3 Flight camera swicher / live out from recording cam / fpv camera
Aux 4 Gimbal pitch slider / pot direct connection from receiver to gimbal pitch control no need to go through flight controller

Just thought i would describe my connections so you can get an idea of my AP rig
If I need more camera control, I use a separate transmitter receiver to the gimbal and separate video feed to monitor so camera man can control
the camera position whilst i keep the unit in the air to simplify the process on a pro shoot.
Hope this helps, would be interested in what you want to run on the other channels.

Yes 7 channels and that your lot in this mode it all works fine its just the s-bus that is all over the place, I have had another lot of phone calls and still no further on, one guy I spoke with knows someone using a Taranis on another type of quad and has no problem with the s-bus but when he tries to use his Futaba  on the same set up it is a right game apparently, this is sort of reverse of what I have but it does show that there may be some sort of issue.
Getting to the point of just buy the Futaba and be done with it .... also this does not instill confidence even if I do get the sbus working as will it be a bit flakey

Getting close to hit the bank card again

How was the X8R bound to the Taranis and how is it configured?

What mode on the Taranis? D8 or D16
How many channels?
How was the X8R bound? Did you use any jumpers?

Are you trying to use SBUS as well as PWM outputs from the X8R?

Hi Quadfather
The X8R was bound in D16 and 16 channels with no jumpers and I am just trying to use Sbus

OK, what you tried there is not going to work.  To use all 16 channels from the X8R it has to be bound using a specific mode by putting jumpers on certain signal pins.

When you do that channels 1-8 will be through SBUS and channels 9-16 will be the analogue outputs, which you could use to control servos, e.g. a gimbal.

Just to see if you can get the X8R to play with the Align at all set the mode to D16 and the channel range to 1-8 on your Taranis.  Then rebind the X8R as usual (without jumpers).  Then use the Align software to check the channels, you probably have to reassign them from TAER to AETR or something along those lines.

If that works we can try to get 16 channels working for more outputs.

Back to the same response from the APS-M some sort of input but the sticks don';t respond accurately with the software
what I get is throttle is slow to respond ailerons sometimes respond sometimes don';t but while calibrating the sticks (even though setting up just a model with the sticks 4 channels) the atti, GPS, failsafe etc are all doing there own thing switching about left aileron etc and failsafe coming on and off etc.

???

Have you ever calibrated the Taranis?
-rw-rw-rw-  –  The Number of the Beast

Yes the Taranis has been calibrated and I read somewhere that the stick settings at 100% caused problems when I set it up conventional the software worked as it should and the sticks were reading with warnings on so I reset them to 80% and that put everything as it should be with the software. on trying again in Sbus mode I could not get any stick movement in the software not response from anything.

Sorry to throw ever more questions at you.  How is the X8R connected to the Align?  At this point it should be only the SBUS connection, nothing else.  Have tried a different cable?
-rw-rw-rw-  –  The Number of the Beast

coffee man

No problems with the questions.

Just one cable from the Receiver to the APS-M on Sbus and I have tried with a different cable still with the same results. Also I found that Frsky did have an issue with sbus for some reason so the firmware was also changed in the receiver and the firmware in the Taranis updated and still the same result.

I wonder if this is the reason for your issues.  I remember some posts about similar behaviour to what you describe now that you mention the firmware upgrades.  Here is one.

There were two firmware upgrades. One is to be compliant with some EU nonsense for hardware sold since some recent date, the other is for the SBUS buffer overflow bug.  The latter only affects users which increase the throw ranges beyond some silly value, I think 128% or something.  In your case you do the opposite, reduce the range.

You could downgrade the firmwares in your radio and X8R to before EU versions and see if that makes any difference. At least you';d know if it was the latest firmware, if you can be bothered that is.  I don';t know what the legal implications are in doing that.  I suspect it';s one of these selling vs owning vs operating scenarios where you';re allowed to do two of the three.
