Cheap FPV setup

Hi guys,

I';m looking at getting into FPV and i have just order the quanum goggles from HobbyKing and need the rest of the kits to get started. I have been looking at the following camera rx/tx to get me going.

http://www.banggood.com/Eachine-700TVL-13-Cmos-FPV-110-Degree-Camera-w32CH-Transmission-p-965760.htmlhttp://www.banggood.com/FPV-5_8G-8CH-200mW-AV-Wireless-Receiver-RC805-p-73202.html

Im on a tight budget, and my idea is to invest in fat sharks if I find its something I enjoy, but want to know if i would be throwing my money away if I purchased the kit above.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Paul

I believe that VRX is NOT compatible with Fat Sharks if that will be your choice of goggles if you decide to continue in FPV, Boscam is only compatible with Boscam and Skyzone equipment.
Having said that that VRX will be fine to get you into FPV without spending a fortune when paired with the VTX on the same web page for £10.94.

Thats why i don';t want to spend much, I would start from scratch if I upgraded to fat sharks. Thanks for info

Choose one of the 32 channel transmitters, I think my last one from banggood (uk warehouse) cost me about 16 quid and it works fine with fatshark goggles (and a boscam 32 channel rx)

Im keeping cost to a minimum and don';t intend to fly with anyone else so 8ch will be suffice to get me started. The idea is to get a full setup as cheap as possible that is usable so that I can decide if FPV is for me or not.

Only tried 1 cmos camera and it wasn';t very good. Pretty scary actually. Most people use ccd board cameras. I understand about budgets but it really might be a case of buy cheap pay twice there.

I have ordered the goggles as they were in stock in the UK warehouse, I would have ordered the full kit but I have heard of a lot of people been stung by customs when ordering from the HobbyKing international warehouse.

I would still recommend at least spending the extra 3 or 4 quid on a 32 channel tx as it will probably save a lot of messing about later.

Also select either SMA or RP-SMA and otherwise you will end up collecting to many antennas (try to avoid converters if at all possible)

Both rx & tx i have listed are RP-SMA?

i';ll think about the 32 channel rx

My first stuff was RP-SMA then I got a set of fatshark goggles so I ended up buying another TX so I could get away with a single set of antennas (with my lack of common sense u would end up bring the wrong antennas out with me so I made things as simple as possible)

Worth noting cheers, I think the idea will be to keep this as a separate system though for a friend, if i decide i like FPV and go for a fat shark setup. Can you use a 600mw rx with a 200mw tx?

Dunno why they are listing a mW value next to the receiver as it';s only the transmitter that puts a signal

The only possible reason I cam think of is to gauge the battery usage.

If you are flying a 250 unless you are flying in and around trees the antenna quality tends to be more important than the output power

Even if customs want duty it will only cost an extra £12.50 so not going to be a deal breaker it';s still very cheap.

Then Royal Mail take their £8 ';cut';.  Don';t you just love a good admin charge!

this is what i though, and it';s only a 480 line camera. Looking on banggood and aliexpress i should be able to get a Sony 700 lines CCD for about the same price.

I was abit unsure of the camera quality but if you watch this you can see the quality is plenty good enough.  ;)
OK it';s far from the best quality but then I';m not paying best quality prices. I think this kit that costs under £100 delivered inc customs is a cracking deal.

Im really impressed with the quality of the footage, I would have been tempted if I hadn';t already have already ordered the goggles.

This really. They aren';t much more than 8 channel jobbies and will save a few quid if you go to the dark side

Im using the quanum screen with a boscam rc305 rx and an little aomway 32ch vtx and the sony super had 600vtl camera on my little 250 quad. Cost me approx £85 for that lot, and so far its been very reliable cant fault it.
Also if buying larger items from hk';s international warehouse its best to use the uk direct channel option. Takes a couple of days longer but ive never had customs charges.

I think the YouTube video above is actually recorded on a mobius, the time stamp in the corner looks very much like it at least.

I';ve recently got stung buying a bargain looking ccd camera. Decided to buy from known good sources now rather than take chances with eBay. A bad camera really will ruin the whole fpv experience. Plenty of cheap decent fpv gear but cameras it seems you get what you pay for

Just found these, they look like an evolution of the quanums.

I';ve just ordered a nice 5in screen with much better res than the quanums. 800x480 I think. Going to try building a foamex housing for it. With a Fresnel lense and some 2in elastic I think it came to about £24
