Not done a build log before (not sure if this will be one or not lol)

few  pics of tonights work ... bit of a dry build as Im waiting for a new lower spacer plate

Stefan in fairness has been superb and the kit is a work of art , well impressed, I went for the 3d printed cam holder, angled mobius mount and the lower tray to keep it all neat

need to get this built :)

not sure what esc';s to use as yet as I have a choice

went for the DYS motors and it will be 3S, its a lot heavier that my QAV250 and still has a way to go, its going to be bomb proof I think though, maybe a little to much!

all visable wiring will be braided the only colour is blue standoffs and blue Naze Acro ... everything else Black  no connectors and hard wired as much as possible

This will be one to watch, thanks for posting Trev.  A few of the local lads on the Kent group on FB have the THuG and rave about it. They are serious abusers of the technology and this one seems to hold its own against the worst that they chuck at it. A good sign from what I can see ~~

A big bonus, the THuG is designed and built by British hobbyists, so these guys know what they';re doing.  No soppy cloning or half measures. Good materials used also. I';d expect it to be in the ranks of best of breed

What flight controller and software are you going to use in this?

Looking forward to seeing you progress your build to the first flight

Cheers Danny

what you posted is many of the reasons I went for the frame

everything is replaceable locally ...ish! if I ever need to though Ill be amazed , its built like a truck

Ive been on Stefans facebook page for a long time and just kept seeing the super clean builds and peeps raving about them

Just had to buy one ....

its having a Naze Acro with baseflight although cleanflight may find its way on there by accident ... Im terrible for getting stuck in my ways even to the point of not using one of the new 3 CC3Ds I have and ordering another naze for it  lol , not sure I will see the benefit of cleanflight ... plus I found it very easy to dial my last 250 with baseflight .... we will see

Im stuck between going 4s but only have 12a esc';s at the mo (emax or afro)I think the afro';s will be ok but not read anything about the emax';s, Im going to give it a bash on 3s and see how it goes

other stuff is a homebrew 600mw Vrx (JT  ~~) DR4-II Rx

so its nothing ground breaking but the ground may get broken  ;)

Absolutely love it.
The way I crash and burn I should deffo  go this route. I love the tray/spacer thingy. It';s inspired me to do something similar.
I have plans to build something around the zmr overcraft board when it comes. Do away with the zmr stuff probably order thug arms. Some 3d print bits and some study spacers. Someone at work will cut me some carbon fiber if I can get my act together to design a body.

Keep posting pics trev.
Clean builds are my thing. I love it when there is minimal visible wiring.
Will post pics of my completed Tarot  250 later.

was asking my Son last night if he could draw a spacer plate for the Clone 250 (3rd year mechanical engineering student) he reckons not to much of a problem if I buy him a 3d printer lol

I broke a thumbstick on my hubsan tranny so he created a stl file and printed one in college ... probably a little less taxing but a nice job all the same , the finish on the print is amazing ... dread to think what the cost of their printer is

I need a 3D printer badly as Ive got loads of ideas for one ..

was just doing a little couple of jobs to find I had bought 12v step down and not 5v .... arrrgghhh! .. will probably just get an immersion 600 on there ..

oh such fun :)

Get some pics of that tarot up ... mines built with no electronics as I will build it one day just differently as I dont like the lack of room so built it to have a look at what I can do

How heavy are these frames Trev?  They';re certainly top dollar, will be interesting to see how you get on with it ~~

Trev2971

pretty heavy ... Im too scared to weigh it at the moment lol

it feels heavy as my battery-less qav250 (full fpv/mobius etc) at the moment and it still missing rx,Vtx esc';s and mobius

one thing I bought this for is to fly it at gaps Im not likely to point my qav at as Im a big girl, once this is built I will just fly it at stuff, Ive been out a few times this week with the qav and feel im holding back (not sure why) ... probably a confidence/ability thing lol, theres some gaps at the top of the field through the tree';s ... I keep pointing the quad at them and bottling it last second ... with the Thug I think the trees will be more at risk than the multi

from what I have seen they fly lovely so Im not too worried about the weight yet lol, will get it built with the very minimal wiring then cut the weight back from there

Nice one Trev.
My cousin got one of them printers last week funny enough. To be fair it';s almost identical to my wanhao. The only notable difference is the extruder. I think his came with a 7th gen one and the wanhao are now shipping with 10th gen. I should imagine in real terms the end print wouldn';t differ that much. He';s been skiing all week so I haven';t seen a print yet.
I will say the wanhao packages are great you a spare glass plate, tape, tools and all sorts. £400 on the other hand is cheap as chips. Not so much a gamble if you don';t get too much use out of it. Mine is going every day mind, loving the esun filament I got this week from hobby king.

That took care of the bit I had floating in PayPal. Wish I had some for a thug now.

Have to say the Tarot surprised me. Banged on every thing that my zmr has on it yet it';s managed to look much more roomy. A proper tardis of a frame.

Trev2971

I';ll hold on till he comes home and prints something then Dan lol

Tarot is taking a back seat ... my mini hex is getting built next ... may end up with flashed Naza lite or another naze acro lol

still waiting for the pics  ;)

got the scales out this morning ...

looks like its going to come in around the 600 mark , thats inc mobius and a 1500mah 3s pack

looking at the comparison thread is about right so im quite happy may go down to 3mm arms at I think the 5mm are overkill anyway

that will shave a good chunk ... under 620 and Ill be happy but its well on the way for under that at the mo

I used to hard wire everything but after my recent run of form I think all be making everything as easy to change as possible. my biggest mistake was hard wiring esc';s to naze board. I though it looked really tidy and was chuffed with myself until I had to swap out all 4 esc';s. Not an easy job re soldering ho those pin holes. Header pins all the way from now on lesson learned

I paid a visit to Stefan at his workshop today.  The fella is bang on the ball. He';s got some amazing stuff on the go.  One of the other Kent fliers was there (Revo) and he showed me his Thug 350 - what a beast that is.

These guys absolutely thrash their kit, mercilessly. Looking at some of the pictures of the aftermath they seem to spend a fair amount of time being planted into the mud at insane speeds.  Pushing the envelope completely, the Thug seems to take the beating. And those arms!  :o  OMG! To die for.  5mm? Hell yeah.

I wasn';t going to .... but now I';m thinking ...

Did you ever weigh the Thug 250?
I';m VERY tempted, but weight plays a big part in my decision.

Also, how does it handle in comparison to the QAV?

My finger is hovering over the ';Pay now'; button

i gave up weighing mine after it tipped the 800g mark. i am using 5mm arms, 1800 4S nanotechs, runcam SKY fpv cam, titan airbots and boscam 600mw vtx, sunrise slim 20A escs....all heavy components.

still flies pretty nice and can get 6 minutes on hq 6030 props

Thanks for that and WOW... 800g is heavy! It';d be nice if they put the frame weight on the site and not just say "Its not a lightweight racer". I';m not looking for flat-out speed, but a mix of stability and agility.
If it was below 200g, I';d have bought one already.

Vortecks

One last question..... did you have to wait for it to be made? Their website says "These are made to order so take a few days to despatch." but it says ';In Stock';

Vortecks

Ahhhh bugger. The website kept screaming at me to buy one so I did.
Now I';ve gotta explain it to the boss :cry

If anyone wanted to know, Stefan replied to my question.....
The 280mm (with 5mm arms) weighs 260g with the 3d filler and 210g without.

i might be selling mine soon, wasn';t that impessed with it tbh. the carbon came in a filthy state, looked like it had gone from milling to boxing with no steps in between. friday afternoon special maybe. the worst parts were the top deck and mobius mount which were actually damaged by the milling, both had delamination. if theyd cleaned the parts after they might have noticed. stefan did help me out though, he took it all back and upgraded me to the elite version with 5mm arms and all the 3d parts. said he';d had problems with his helper?

so on with the build....

the 3d printed cam holder is only in 5deg, not much good for fast flight. the carbon cam plate and 3mm hole for a metal mount sky runcam are in the wrong place if you ask me, puts a board cam too far back and a sky mini metal cam too far forward. if theyd swapped the places of the 3mm hole and the board cam mount it would have been perfect. the mobius mount holes are too big for the bobbins, they dont hold them at all well. not that i use bobbins anyway.

what else?

the supplied hardware is trash, that cheap nasty ';alloy'; stuff, the arm bolts weren';t even long enough for the job either, top of bolt was sitting a good mm under top of nyloc nut. cheap generic unbranded battery strap.

not doing much a sellers job am i?

i do like the quality and ruggedness of the frame. the 3d filler is nice too but it is heavy and is crying out for 4S and 2000kv motors with 6040 props. its is a 280mm quad after all
