HI
I have starting to make replacement arms for the ZMR250 Chinese clone mini quad.
I have started a selling thread http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=12187.0
there have been many cases of people buying the ZMR to learn on as it is cheep not a lot to pay for replacement parts. we all think that once we are good with the ZMR we can move up to a blackout or similar, the ZMR';s main fault is in its arms replace them with good set and you have a good quad.
I';m looking for feedback to my idea.

It';s all madness, the original ZMR CF arm are £3 a pair from bangood! They don';t break particularly easily, I have been flying one for 6 months and haven';t broken one lol! (nor have my two flying companions for that matter!)
Plus if you buy a zmr for £30 odd, then spend another almost £30 on pointless arms, you may as well of just bought a blackout in the first place

I am not that impressed with the 5mm thug arm. Why is it so thick? Just so that it NEVER breaks even if you slam into concrete at 90mph?

Once an arm is thick enough that it does not flex in flight making it thicker just adds weight (and extra protection in a crash). It does not make it fly better. Because you are carrying all that extra weight just so that you get the satisfaction of knowing you';ll win vs concrete you will get a lower power to weight ratio and lower flight durations.

I';ve found 3mm carbon fibre ares give zero flex and wouldn';t want to go up to 5mm on my current design. It wouldn';t achieve anything except to add weight.

Having said all that; if i could get 5mm carbon i would redesign my arms to be thinner in the horizontal cross section and thicker vertically so that they presented less cross sectional area into the prop disc for improved aerodynamic performance. I wouldn';t just cut my current 3mm arm design thicker.

One circlip short of a quadcopter.
1 lobe short of an antenna.
