Naza M Lite to M V2 Upgrade Project (Was: This is interesting, I may try it)

I';ve got a quite old Naza V1 and a fairly modern M Lite.

Thought I';d have a go at the free upgrade on the M Lite to start with and so I downloaded the software (which is still there - http://naza-upgrade.com/index_naza.php)  ...

I am running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit and it opens the M Lite Assistant and the Naza goes green when USB is plugged in ... ok so far ...

Followed the instructions they supply ....but the download wont even start as I keep getting a window that says I should disable Windows firewall and virus software and something about stopping programmes using Port 80...

So I laboriously stopped all the firewall entries - then stopped and disabled my virus checker (Avira) and I keep getting the same window over and over again - I even went through a process that inserts a ';Block 80'; into the windows firewall software .... but still the updater software wont even start.

Tearing hair out ... 

Any hints or tips or anything I can try ....except throw it through a window ... (which I';ve considered believe me )

If you get totally stuck and want it done, I have a hard drive that I put in my laptop with all the correct settings. I can swap drives and do it for you. Its so frustrating that PC has to be just so before it will all work. The offer is there if you want it :)  The cool thing is, if it goes wrong its easy to revert it back to the Lite software.

Can you do the old V1 too or is it just applicable to M Lite??

What do you need sending - just the Naza or do you need the little USB power hoochamijigger that goes with it??

I love forums ... I am currently 3D printing FPV camera lens caps for someone and posting them off - and now someone else is helping me with Naza upgrades 

Camaraderie at work with people you have never, and probably will never, meet in person    ::)

Another forum example - I was looking for motor drives with gearboxes attached for a Meade telescope a while back and couldn';t find one anywhere - apparently not made any more and no one had stock 
But on a Meade forum I was directed by someone to an obscure Meade website run by a chap in Arizona in USA who got straight back to me and said he had 6 on the shelf in his workshop and I could have 2 (1 to use and 1 spare for me) - AND he only charged me 10$ including postage from the USA

Thanks - as I';ve said Bob this is just the kick/shove I needed to rekindle my interest in this hobby and now I am starting to rebuild my home made Hex (six new motors and six new escs arrived today  ) and will then probably rebuild my Quad too ... and maybe have another pop at FPV but perhaps with cheapo Quanum goggles rather than that stupid welding helmet I did ... 

I certainly wont be buying any overweight shark ones .... FAR too pricey

You have to add this entry to your hosts file too

Have a read at this thread if you encounter problems, most of the answers are there, you also have to edit your hosts file adding   127.0.0.1 upgrade.dj2006.net

I have the Naza V2 which is great, very stable works well, no issues.

My brother has a MultiWii which is nothing but problems, always wants to fly away. So he is thinking of going for the Naza. To confirm, would the Naza Lite with this hack work just as good as if it was a Naza V2? Could he still use the MiniOSD?

I';ve just joined the forums and I';m starting off by asking for help - sorry about that!
I';m an older experienced model glider pilot and had an old quad with one of the early KK boards in which I recently decided to upgrade to a Naza lite.  Well I';ve got it flying after a fashion but the GPS seems to drift horrendously and I don';t think the yellow led works as I never seen it in all the flashing codes and I can';t seem to get it into the compass calibration mode.
Anyway I decided to try and upgrade it to the V2 firmware on an old Windows XP machine but I';m not getting the upgrade pop up.  When I first connected the lite unit it asked me to register the S/N which I did - could this be stopping the upgrade?
Ideally I would like to be able to bring it to a kind local soul (I live in Kent) who has a proven of to see if it will upgrade - anyone in Kent or Sussex who could help me?

Thanks but I have already downloaded all the software and loaded them on an XP PC and run the 1.01 version of the upgrade but the upgrade box doesn';t appear when I load the Naza assistant software.
I';m worried that because I registered the S/N number when I first bought it a few days ago it is stopping me from upgrading - can anyone confirm they have managed it even if the they registered their S/N number?  I figured most of these threads are quite old and so DJI may have introduced this requirement which stops the upgrade?..

Give it another go, usually antivirus can stop it and also as it uses port 80 as in web to do the upgrade i found it easier if i disconnected from the internet to do the upgrade.  It only takes a minute and well worth the effort.

Thanks Jay I will keep trying.  I have already disabled the antivirus and disconnected from the internet but still no luck.
Did yours connect to port 80 automatically?  When I looked at device manager the dji driver was on com7 so I changed it to com80 (is the com number and port number even the same thing?!).
I fear it might be the script thing referred to in rcgroups but I don';t understand what that even means!

uninstall the dji driver and then reinstall

The com port is not the same as port 80
that will confuse the program and will be unable to find the naza.

but understand why you did it 
after you re install the naza driver plug in naza and make sure it connects etc.
then close naza assistant

Open the naza upgrade program
plug in naza and plug in battery
open the naza assistant then wait a couple of seconds then the upgrade window should pop up
click upgrade when conpleat you will have to download the new naza assistant to check calibration and all other settings.

Thanks for your patience Jay - I';ve done all that and even done a merciless cull on any programmes that could conceivably want to use port 80 and it still didn';t work!
Incidentally when I deleted the dji driver and reinstalled it it came back on com80 so I changed it to com2 just in case.
So I have a win xP PC with almost no programmes on it, no internet, no firewall and I still can';t get it to work!

Until Jay comes back. I assume that you are sure the usb cable that is connected to the Naza is actually on Com2?

It should allow you to see the ';ports'; and hopefully which the naza is connected to?

I think the update needs to be directed to the com port that the naza has been allocated.
The port 80 is normally the port browsers use to get to the internet servers. I believe in the ';upgrade'; the software tries to use port 80 to get to the internet to validate the naza is not a lite version. Hence the reason why you have to modify the host file to redirect that check back to your own machine (127.0.0.0 etc).

The above is just my vague understanding as I have not actually carried out the procedure but I know Jay has as I have his Naza now

Have you tried looking at the youtube videos of the upgrade? They might give you some clues?

Okay the easiest thing I can suggest is pop the naza in the post to me and
I will happily do the update for you. Windows 
or option 2
Install Teamviewer its free and i can log into your laptop
with an access code and try to do it for you whilst you watch.
Might be worth a try.

Thanks Ched, yes I';ve watched countless videos and done exactly (as far as I can tell) what they recommend.
Com2 with the dji driver pops up as soon as I plug in the Naza and it connects via the assistant and shows all my settings so I presume that bit is working ok.  The host file has the appropriate header in too so I';m at a loss..

Thanks Jay, shall we try the remote access thing first to avoid the hassle and risk of posting?
