First flight problems

Hi guys,

I';m running a naza v2 with gps and tried my first maiden flight today. I say try as it didn';t go well at all :(

Got a good gps lock (green flashes from the led), armed ok. Took off it was about 10feet up and I tried some slow forward backwards side to side and all seemed well. Then it didn';t stop it just kept heading away from me. I killed the throttle in a bit of a panic and unsurprisingly my quad fell from the sky..

Now I have a broken quad and a grumpy look on my fAce.

Anyone got any pointers to help me learn to fly this thing?

Cheers

Silly question but did you carry out the compass dance to set up the GPS?

nub

the compass calibration, when you turn the quad 360 degrees with it flat then on its side.
Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

Ok I will order some new props and try again after doing the dance. Thanks guys

if you get that reaction in ATTI try reducing the ATTI gain leave the basic gain as it is.
440 Y6 with vector, F330 quad with naza, hammer 240 with flip32, and watch this space.

Maybe a silly question but what flight mode where you in? For maiden flight I would recommend attitude mode (or manual mode if you';re comfortable pilot) as GPS mode will try and lock onto a position hence if the compass calibration or GPS lock isn';t right it will try and fly away. In attitude mode the flight control is just trying to level off when sticks are centered.

Manual mode would be the best if you are confident pilot as it uses the least amount of control loops and sensors (generally speaking.. It had the least amount of automated control) followed by Attitude then GPS mode which uses most sensors.

Hi, can you expand on this...

NorcoT

Well manual mode the flight control tries only to maintain the current angle / orientation of the quad.

In attitude mode the flight controller also tries to keep the quad level.

In GPS mode the flight control attempts to maintain its position, so when you let go of the sticks it will have a ';target'; it is trying to reach or maintain, if the ';target'; is wrong or if the compass is not calibrated then the quad will fly away trying to reach what it thinks the target is.

Now I don';t know what happens if calibration is wrong and you put stick commands in. Was it flying off when you let go of the sticks or was it doing it despite you trying to pull back?

Wyntrblue

Tbh I think I panicked a bit as it all happened so fast.
It was in gps mode when it started to get away I';m sure I let go of the sticks and it just kept going and accelerating away. So I killed the throttle and let it fall from the sky (rather that than lose it in a tree or water)

Still parts are ordered and will try again as soon as I';m able.

If there is anyone in the Coventry area who I could meet up with for some lessons that would be even better
