Hello all

As in the title I know this is plane and not quad related but how do they do they keep the plane flying stationary in a vertical position and the flying is about 2mins 12 seconds into the video. ?

Friskle

Its throttle control, backwards and forwards, to constantly raise and lower the throttle, to keep it the plane from raising,  plus constant use of Elevator, Aileron and rudder,  if the plane is perfectly balanced, you can roll it on the spot with Aileron, while also continually using small inputs of elevator and rudder.

not as easy as it looks at first, but i usually do it quite a lot now, looks good for the passers by :)

It';s called Prop hanging,  as Friskle says it';s done by accurate control of all surfaces and throttle. What you are doing is getting into a stall condition and holding it on the verge of stalling. It';s not easy to do well close to the ground and, as you have seen from the clip, can result in expensive repairs when you get it wrong. I can just about do it but at about 30ft up, chicken out of going any nearer to the ground ;-)

I guess you must be on the sticks constantly and it must take a lot of concentration and to be honest it really amazed me but if they crashed I don';t know how much a plane like that would cost to replace.

Yes, your constantly correcting controls, throttle is being altered practically all the time, rudder i would say most used, similar to Darrell, i started high, but getting braver, the lowest i do it now is about 20 feet :) done it at chest height, but i panic to much lol

I';ve done it by accident a couple of times not so good at doing it on purpose

Practicing on the simulator but damn it';s hard

Ross

................and as a lot of full size pilots  found out...low level aerobatics don';t pay!!

Nice big money modelling tho!! ~~
Let's be careful out there.
SAFETY is.. NO accident.

davethepitch

So how much would a plane like in the video cost to buy complete.

Dave

Ross

All bells and whistles (including a big engine)  say about a grand (could be more). and of course if large scale model, would need inspection  evry step in the building by a qualified LMA examiner repping the CAA so a certificate could issued......
So building would need to be on top line not the usual modeller build!

See Large Model Association....

The bloke in the middle clearly didn';t :o

What a totally pointless skill - demonstrating power to weight ratios - why would you spend that much to construct a huge fixed wing plane only then to fly it like a helicopter - why not just go out and buy a helicopter  :azn

Rather a Naive view really, just because you dont see the point to it, does not make it pointless, learning power to weight ratio is used in more than just prop hanging.

people don';t just prop hang all day.  lol   it is just part for 3D flight.

Was lucky it didn';t hit the prop of the full size aircraft! Could of ended differently.

Feel for the guy hit by the full size ... someone messed up

I love my heli';s and quads but a heli is meant to hover ... a plane isnt .... thats what makes it fun to do! and it aint that hard ... just like anything else practice!

its fun ... all you saying pointless etc ... like there';s any point to flying or operating anything by RC unless its commercial for anything more than ';fun';

you guys  :wack0
