I';m not sorry to hear it.

Though I do hope it';s not because Sky complained about their rights being infringed as thats the least of the issues he has caused

This kind of incident and outcome reporting is the kind of high-profile news that needs to get out there to the consumer fliers. Also the hobbyists who don';t really care about rules and regulations.  We/they may not like them but it really is pointless going against them. Its not our train set.

However, in the reporting there is one bit that grates

Yes, indeed they can. But then they';re not exactly small, and they';re certainly not what the RTF community are being sold in the likes of Maplins.

They are compared to the sort of thing we used to see in our teens flying around Shell island - gunnery targets being tested!
On a brighter note - at last the CAA decides to make it more public that this sort of stupid misuse is  not going to be tolerated!

It';s always a RTF quad too.. People just buy them and assume they can do whatever, paints the rest of us hobby goers who do their research and follow the rules in a bad light too. Let';s hope the public can distinguish irresponsible individual from the rest of us

The guy who did the Blackpool video (amongst others) has/had a heavily modified TBS Disco and modified 2.4GHz tx.

The awful estate agent that keeps on appearing also seem to be using a tbs discovery

well that latest story has the word i have been waiting for   KILL   do you think we will end up having the drone police.  lol

barneyg

Bah fed up of BBC';s reporting ... while I agree that this ****** should be prosecuted the BBC';s deliberately evocative reporting is quite frankly ****** - the continual use of the word drones and poor fact checking (a small quad is not 7kg)... I';ve made an official complaint.  I suggest we all do the same.

tupoar

My favourite bit...

QuoteThe BBC asked the CAA if it had the resources to deal with the growing popularity of drones, but it did not respond.

Instead, it said it would shortly be launching a public information campaign to raise awareness of the rules and regulations.

"Ignorance is not a defence," a spokesman for the organisation said.

So they didn';t respond, but they did respond....

It';s the informed that have no trouble with the term UAVs etc..the average person does not...........The media use the word "drones" because its easier for  TV viewers and newspaper readers to understand what they are on about.....and they constantly use it for the full size weapon types........

The whole point is that we will, as I have said before, find that flying multi rotors will be confined to flying club properties and public flying banned...

Its coming down the line like an express train sooner or later..let';s not kid ourselves..

Hmmm, thats becoming common feedback.

What are the feelings on weeding these out as they occur? Or simply locking them against additional comment beyond the OP? I am guilty of raising a couple myself, but they do seem to be quite depressing and, as you say, don';t actually serve a purpose.

Here is the latest..............................

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29687769

Its nice that the authorities have responded without pushing for an all out ban but currently with an approach to raise awareness of the law, and showing how serious these ';drones'; are.

Its not going to stop the idiots out there but hopefully will make the more sensible out there think twice about where they fly.

My annoyance with RTF multirotors are that people can just buy and fly and have no appreciation for how easy it is for something to go wrong. My personal experience with building DIY quads has taught me a wealth of knowledge - especially where NOT to fly! I dont trust my own quad over my head / property / car so why anyone elses?.

nbpicklesno2

Locking them after the op would be a good move. A certain FPV forum has just started removing them as well. They are pointless after all.
A tricopter is the only prime numbered multirotor (I need to change this signature since watching one of the latest videos from Flite Test but can't think of anything intelligent (smart arse) to change it to right now).

Hands0n

Ok, so the only concern [strictly speaking personally] would be that of apparent censorship of information that is already in the public domain.

That said, I do observe that the news media will publish a news article and then close it for comments.  If we took that approach for any such posts in this forum that would be a middle ground to curtailing long discussions of this nature.

HandsOn ... that is what I would have said ... we could even have a new forum area .... quads in the media only postable to by specified people.  If someone spots something new in the press they can pm it to one of these people who can then post it.  This should help prevent multiple postings of the same article too.
