Not exactly the best choice of word definition..eh? seeing as it is a derivative of Spastic.......

NOT being PC but someone on here may have a relative who actually suffers from that.

I think that if you went and looked up the etymology of most words we';re commonly using for someone foolish then you';ll find they all probably have roots in physical or mental illnesses of some kind.

I was giving my post a kind of retro 70-80';s feel as we were all talking about stuff we';d do as kids like strap a banger to your chopper* and wheelie down the street.

I can';t be arsed to do that though because I';d rather save my petty OCD energies for something technical and more fun.  :evil

The biggest problem  I find in society today is that our right to make every day choices using common sense has been taken away. And that';s because common sense is no longer common. I find it very sad as a child born mid 70';s I';m seeing my kids having no where as much fun as i had as a kid often muttering when i was your etc etc
Kinda makes me wanna stick 2 fingers up to a jobsworth and do something stupid.
No idea what though lol

We have all done some silly things and have got away with it!

I was on a health and safety course last week and caused a few raised eye brows when I suggested removing all the safety warning labels and letting nature take its course, my argument being that all the stupid ones would kill themselves and we would be left with a work force who had common sense, which is what we had before health and safety!

Too many people rely on health and safety to protect them from themselves.

Hmm, once this thread gets scanned and indexed I';d say that quite a few of us will be getting our doors kicked in by SO4 or somesuch ::)

Chemistry is a right bu99er, you can';t really unlearn what you learned all those years back.  Even a most basic understanding can put you in a very awkward position these days if you play with the stuff.  I';m just so glad that I lived my youth in those days and not these.  The sanitisation of our kids these days is suffocating!

My newest naughty was making a pneumatic projector that fired 3/8" steel ball bearings,  it was a trial for a regulated pneumatic air rifle mechanism.
Worked at around 1200 psi from a scuba bottle - miscalculated things a bit, fired it at a piece of 4*2 timber in front of a wall - went clean through both!!!
Needless to say it was dismantled sharpish ::)

See, I';d like to start experimenting with Rail Gun technology. The trouble is, get it right and there';s no telling where the projectile will eventually stop!   ::)

 sort of, it scared me sh1tless! I had been doing some r&d work in line with what John Bowkett had been doing when he designed an air rifle that could take a bear out - it was for a Canadian guy who had a passion for air rifles.

hear hear!
This stuff and all the other stuff that we do here is how we as a human species learns and grows. Sometimes, we learn things and make mistakes, and carry on and learn more things from those mistakes - sometimes with fewer fingers or eyebrows, but to stifle the human spirit of curiosity is the worst crime imaginable.... (okay, I';m done now).

Gutted I missed out on the whole ';powders'; fun and games. Sadly none of my friends at the time had bomb making experience!

Does anyone else think the FBI, CIA and Homeland security will be monitoring this thread from now on or do I simply watch too much American TV?? :o

Nah, they';re a lot smarter than that. They';re not interested in guys making fizzy rockety things or shooting each other in the eye with roman candles. I';ve been into AER for a few years following such heroes as Jimmy Yawn and Ricard Nakka - no knocks on my door or strange black pizza vans parked outside all night. I';m sure they';ve seen what I';ve done.

One thing to remember what we consider illegal in the UK may not be so in other countries,   this is also true for what we might consider stupid in the UK and "normal" in other countries.

Also what may be considered legal in most of the UK may not be legal where I live :(

There is a limit in the UK as to how much  hazardous fuels etc can be kept on a property..

QUOTE.....http://www.fireservice.co.uk/safety/fuel-storage

The Law

Storage of fuel at home or the workplace (unless specifically licensed) is restricted by law to either metal containers with a maximum capacity of 10 litres or approved plastic containers of a maximum 5 litres capacity. These containers should be designed for the purpose and must be fitted with a screw cap or closure to prevent leakage of liquid or vapour.

Petrol and diesel fuel should be stored in no more than two 10 litre metal containers or two 5 litre plastic containers. They should be clearly labeled as to their contents.

Petrol filling stations operate under license conditions, which do not allow drivers to dispense fuel into other types of container.

At home, fuel containers must not be stored in living accommodation such as kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms or under staircases. Any storage place should be well away from living areas in case of fire and it should be secured, to protect against the possibility of vandalism or arson.
Let's be careful out there.
SAFETY is.. NO accident.

Nope different

Quote:
A New European Union Regulation on Explosives Precursors came into effect in the EU on 2 September 2014.A precursor is any everyday chemical that can be used in the preparation of an explosive device. Nitro Methane falls into this category. The regulation states that sales of nitro methane above a concentration of 30% by weight must be controlled. This is equivalent to a concentration of 26% by volume. This may affect you if you buy Nitro Methane based fuels, as a licence will be required for anyone wishing to purchase Nitro Methane based fuels above a concentration of 25% by volume.

Link http://lesromodels.co.uk/journal/new-eu-nitromethane-fuel-regulations/

However it is apparently being deferred everywhere except NI (according to the which I received a few months ago)

I couldn';t care less about IC flying, but lets be honest there';s many other precursors out there that lunatics could use, and the lunatics we have in this bit will be using something considerably more nasty.
