I couldn';t help myself...  :banghead:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__66622__HobbyKing_Thorax_Mini_FPV_Hex_Multi_Rotor_Frame_Kit.html

Will be running Naze32 and 3S Batts of some sort.

Now I just need to decide on the power system

RCX 1804 2400kv + 10a SimonK (I have these already)

or

DYS 1806 2300Kv (Goldies) + 12a Emax Simon Series (need to buy 2 motors and 6 esc';s)

Any thoughts??  :hmm:

EDIT: it has come to my attention that this frame is a blatant clone of a Clayton Harp (aka gearwolf-OP on github) design posted 4 months ago. Most disappointed by this action.

THat looks interesting TP, not sure about the green tho!  Have you considered 4 cell';s for a tad more jip?

Keep it emax, capiche?
Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

I';d vote for the DYS myself, they';re immensely powerful, very punchy, although a bit chunkier than the RCX1804 motors.

Does anyone know if the Naze32 will fly a hex with only 5 motors if one failed (ie. like Naza M and APM will)?

aye the green is a bit hmmm, 4S deff give the RCX';s more pop ::) makes my mini H fly the way it should do, will be keeping an eye on this build though to see how it goes, good luck.

I';d just use the 1804s + 3S, a bird in the hand and all... And you';ll really appreciate the upgrade to something punchier next time the bug strikes  :)

Update:

I';ve ordered a second frame! there is method behind my madness though!! I';m going to use the extra top frame so that I can create room to house the battery within the frame. The rest will be spares.

I have now disabled my PP account, cut up my credit cards, and disabled access to Hobbyking and the for sale section until further notice.  :frantic: :help:

So here it is, the squashed frog. It is got a seriously low profile!

Issues to note:

* There is no real support at the front. Support is provided by the cased fpv cam you fit. Not an ideal solution for me
* For the motors I';ll be using (DYS goldies) you';ll only be able to use 2 holes for mounting. Again, not ideal but manageable.

Things to do:

* Replace silver spacers between the middle and top plates with black ones. Will user longer ones to provide a little more space.
* Silver spacers will become legs.
* Add nylon washers/nuts to the legs to increase gap between middle and bottom plates for housing esc';s.
* Add some spacers at the front for extra support
* BUILD THE DAMN THING!
* Add an extra bottom plate to house the battery (this is a maybe)

What is the quality of the fibreglass material like? Hobbyking says it';s FR4 rather than G10 which we are all used to using.

It';s... ok. The legs are very strong and should take a pounding, the plates seem strong where supported but have a bit of flex elsewhere.

So I';ve managed to get the build started. It';s been a bit frustrating but progress has been made.

I replaced the silver spacers with black nylon ones that were longer. Not long enough once I mounted the FC in it';s case above the PDB. I';ve had to go through 4 or 5 different combinations of spacers and washers to get everything to go. I also added a washer on the arms to increase space for the esc';s. I';ve also mounted 4 of the motors. I would have mounted all 6 but due to the mounting patterns on the arms, I realised that I';ve put 2 of the arms upside down so the motor wires don';t go down the arm  :slap:

I have an idea for fpv cam add supports to the front which I';ll try once i get access to a dremel...

Luvly jubbly  ~~   Its funny [not] how none of this stuff just fits together without some fettling.  Nevertheless, the build is looking good so far.

Update:

All the motors have been mounted and I';m 4/6 of the way through soldering the motor wires directly to the esc';s. Once that task is complete, I';ll remove the live wires from the esc';s, connected the esc';s to the PDB and then heatshrink them up.

Update:

Soldering is/was done but a few mods mean it';s now ';almost'; done. I now need to strap down the esc';s, bec and the led strobe lighting module (yellow block)down.

Next up is adding support to the front end and creating groves to slide a board cam in.

Interesting side note is that I have been conversing with the original frame designer (Gearwolf). He says that the original should have support at the front but HK removed it......  :o

Ah well....

Quick Update (sorry no pics)

Yesterday I put the middle plate on. It';s a bit snug which means that the bolts aren';t long enough to be secure for my likings. So I';m going to replace all the bolts in the arms and legs which is one of those ever so slight annoying jobs that you really can';t be bothered to do but know it';ll end in tears if you don';t.

I also created a groove for the camera to slot into. It kinda worked but I won';t know for certain if it will work till I add the top plate. Either way, it';s not the right cam for the frame but I';m too tight to buy a smaller cam! I';m seeing a small network of cable ties in the offing. I';ve also modded the frame a little so I can add 2 supports at the front.

I will take some pics later.

those DYS motors look quite chunky, are they larger than the zmr/rcx';s you use, they look more like 2204 motors.

Today';s Update:

So today I replaced all the bolts with longer ones. I also decided to ditch the white strobe LED';s as the controller was taking up too much room. I added the top plate to see what everything looks like. the results are attached.

You can see where I have added the groove for the board cam. It';s secure with just a tad of wobble so a couple of tiny cable ties should sort that. You can also see how I';ve added support to the front.

I';m just waiting on some LED';s to arrive and then everything will be put together and maybe a test flight....
