Vulcan Black Widow- Anyone with hands on experience of them, or other Vulcans?

I';m looking at several options for a pro frame for ';aerial works';, and still considering my options, this being one of them. From my experience of the tarot hex, getting the props out of shot can be fun, similarly with my P2V+. This shouldn';t suffer the same issues I believe.

Y6 frames seem to get a lot of general +ve comments on this front & so wondered whether the quality of these justified the price?

Looking to build a sub 7kg rig, with WKM & GH4 gimbal. Possibly the new Align G3 GH4 gimbal if the Facebook hype proves to be justified about it, as it will work stand alone & has multiple camera and lens PID';s allegedly.

Like this http://www.uavshop.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=523

Any input appreciated.

TIA
Mike

I have the Straight arm version with a pixhawk, the enclosed graphic is a trace of my Vibration measurements . If you are familiar with these you will know that they are very low values.
Solid, fixable bits of kit.

MrBen

I built a Vulcan 1080mm Octo Mantis, great piece of kit and I';d get another in a blink if I wanted something that size again, sadly I sold it on before I got a chance to fit a gimbal/camera.

ShackFlyer

Ta Desmoboy.
I';m not familiar with the vibration mesurements but will try getting my head round them.

Do you have a gimbal on your straight arm one? & can you see the props/arms  in shot?

Who did you buy from if you don';t mind me asking. Have you actually had to fix anything?

I thought vibes where caused by motors & props, not frames?

Hardware? sure, I got hardware!

Vibrations are indeed caused by motors and props but if the frame is weak it will either not help to damp them out or it might allow a sympathetic resonance that will exagerate them.

I am in the process of fitting a gimbal, have bought  a DYS gimbal for Gopro . I was about to get a Gopro and realised the gopro4 was due out. At the moment i have a small cardboard box of the correct size and weight fixed into place so that i can set up the Pids . So to answer your question i dont yet know what will be in view.
Retracts are the answer anyway.

Have dealt with UAV Shop many times. Their kit and backup is first class. Alex is your man.

Desmoboy

I';d second that remark.

I believe Alex also has a carbon CNC cutting ability if you have a need, not used it but good to know.

I';m currently in the process of assembling a Black Widow Y6 although I';ve swapped the rear Z arm for a straight one (I';m using it for single operator / 2 Axis gimbal use).

It';s a solid, very well built piece of kit and elegantly simple in its design.   That said, I';m having to use pictures and the manuals of other models to work out how to assemble it.  Alex at UAV Shop has also been very helpful.

ShackFlyer

Presumably the straight arm is lighter?
Did you go for the fixed or retractable landing gear?
Sorry for all the questions BTW

stepher

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I probably need to change my forum settings to let me know of a post!

Yes it is lighter as it doesn';t have the reinforcing brackets on the joints.  I also went for the fixed legs to save weight.  Both work as I am using 2 axis so in theory I shouldn';t see either in shot!

Hi, I have been flying my 900 Vulcan for a while now - rock solid and very smooth. Up until recently I had an AV200 gimbal with a Sony CX730 which came in at under 7kg all up. However, I';m about to upgrade it to carry my DSLR gimbal and canon 5D so its going to be a bit heavier!

Alex at UAV is a top bloke and will custom build and design stuff if you need it.

Here';s a picture of a Vulcan X8 carrying a Ronin with a Black Magic cinema camera - a bit outside my budget but I can dream!

And here';s my Vulcan

Cheers,

Simon
