I';m about to embark on some proper flying and FPV, and after building my carbon fibre version of the TBS, and proposing to equip it with a gopro i';m obviously concerned about my flying skills and being able to find my beauty should the need arise.

What are my options for "findme" i';ve looked at a few tonight that include a tracker for around 600m, a gps keyfob, and a buzzer when out of range, but what do you recommend.

FC 2.4GHz
Vtx 5.8GHz
pilot 0GHz

kilby

If I remember you are running a Naza and from my poor memory the osd from immersion broadcasts the gps location over the audio channel of the video tx, so provided you are within 5.8GHz range you have the quads location.

Believe there is an iPhone or Android app that listens to the audio stream and displays the current location,.

That coupled to RTL on the Naza should cover most occasions.

If you head over to to Ballymcormack playing fields introduce yourself and ask for Colin he flew a Naze equipped machine commercially for a while and may be able to help.

They should be there between 13:00 and 17:00 tomorrow (weather permitting) would like to be there but I';ve go to Glenarm
Not much kit, but what I have I like
Armattan Tilt 2, Morphite 180, Quark 150, Decapitated NanoQX

Yep it';s a naza-m and I have RTL configured - but not tested, with a dji mini iosd

might take a trip over, depending on what the missus has planned for me lol

Technology is one option of course, and once you';ve tested rth you should have a good chance of recovery if you loose vtx (as long ad you stay calm and don';t panic!).
Osd mini has an azimuth indication, which you could use if the quad went down with osd still transmitting, as you can work out its heading from north. I believe 0 degrees would be north, 180 south, and so on.  The azimuth is an imaginary line due north passing through the home point.
A simple lost model alarm is a good low tech solution, either triggered manually, or below a certain voltage.  I think a cheap flashing led is good, as it should be visible at night from a fair distance, and doesn';t rely on the flight battery being present, which it is often not after a crash from any real height.

Been trying to convince SWMBO that we really need one of these for the cats http://eurekaproducts.com/rc-model-tracking-and-recovery/ good for two miles apparently, super accurate and NO SIM Needed! Bit pricey but against the cost of a big hex or Octo with a camera, probably good value. Supposed to be quite good through trees and obstacles too.

Another possible is this http://www.brookstone.com/stick-n-find-bluetooth-location-tracker only 12g weight but also only 100 ft radius but in a cornfield or even long grass with a small multi might be all you need.

Some good options there thank you, I had been looking at a link I found in another thread.

That loc8ter looks the business, and only 5g... Any links to user reviews? I could spare 5g on my mini if it meant finding it or not! Price isn';t too bad either?

I agree, the loc8tor looks absolutely spot on. Very light and a small price to pay considering just how much we send up there. I';d have liked a little more range perhaps but this is a serious contender for me. Thanks for sharing.

I think you get slightly further range if you buy the pro remote ... but it';s twice the price

Depending just how much extra range it gives you I think it may still worth the cash. We all know how fast our crafts are so 400'; can be covered in a breath and out of range in no time.

Thanks again Smeagol.
