So as per the title the bloody reg has blown, anyone out there with good eyes and a steady hand fancy fixing it for me :help:
Steve

Oakie

If no one else can help i';ll do it. If someone wants to do it I can send you a reg with some caps for buffer rail.

There will be neater workers than I ;)

Only when one looses sight of your toy does FPV become fun and against legislation already in place.

nub

geez a shout if you haven';t got someone to sort it out for you already
Point and click.

Monkey see, Monkey do.

I could do it but wouldn';t like to be responsible if it doesn';t go to plan ::)
I can send you out a reg if you like?

Biffa

Found a work around ~~

You can remove the duff regulator and power the 3.3v stuff through the I2C port

Steve

Oakie

That you can. you have i2c on multi-rotor? or using 3.3 v bec?

It';s on my Bixler. I will be buying a 3.3v regulator just not soldering it to the board as I can find a 3.3v uBEC. I shall then just tap off a 5v source.
Steve

Oakie

nice! if you have an old i2c to serial board that would supply enough for the board sensors...

So as a work around which suited my both my eyes and my soldering skills I have done this:

You have to remove the blown reg first in order to stop that passing 5v, then just a simple wiring bodge from any 5v source to the new (rather large) regulator and then that feeds the 3.3v stuff via the I2C port.

Jobs a good ';un ~~

Hey Oakie,
My reg has blown, so getting zero through it.

I fancy having a go at replacing it myself; what price are the regs please?

Cheers

Was it hard to solder on?

I thought I had this issue after I landed my quad in a drink about a month ago. Turned out I was lucky and there was just a big spot of salt corrosion on two of the legs for the reg and scrubbing it with vinegar fixed the problem. I have no illusions to this happening eventually though. This is why I will be picking up a APM 2.7 from HK which supposedly has a fix for the issue.
Friends dont let friends use NTMs.

Biffa

It only blows when plugging and unplugging stuff while the board is powered, if you can discipline yourself not to do that you should be OK ~~
Steve

Kitetraveller

I did it!!
I am usually the one with all the gear and no idea, and I managed to remove the blown one and solder in the replacement on my own!
It works, and my quad is flying again....it would not win any ';good soldering'; awards, but it does the job...not pretty but working....a bit like me really....

BIG THANKS TO OAKIE FOR THE FOC BITS!!!  Donation made.

Cheers
Andy
