Ok.. took the plunge and picked up an S900 this morning.. from Ricc at Marionville Models in Edinburgh, so thought would start a build thread..

In the end went for WKM (due to voices of doom re: A2, even though I am flying one on my other AP rig ok).
and GH4 Zenmuse.. (wont get this for a week or two yet)

Packaging itself is impressive.. certainly no expense spared..

[attach=1]

S900 also came with the longer landing legs.. as there was an issue with early S900';s and some Zenmuse Gimbals.. I believe cameras were hitting the ground..

[attach=2]

Part number of new longer legs.. attached below

[attach=3]

Also new longer legs look to be made of lighter tubing.. and the twill looks different.. I weighed them and they are only 3g heaver per leg than the shorter legs..(6g total)

[attach=4]

I am going to build the frame this week and mount my spare two axis gimbal on it with my spare sony nex5n until the Gh4 gimbal and camera arrives.

So parts so far.
S900
WKM
DJI Mini OSD
ImmersionRC 5.8ghz VTX
Frsky X8R RX
GH4 Zenmuse Gimbal (on order)

More to follow,...

That will be my next purchase when coin becomes avsilable

ShackFlyer

Sorely tempted myself to build one of these as my pro rig.
As I';ve just booked to do BNUC-S. I just can';t decide to go S900 or wait a little to see what the Align & Thunder tiger hex';s turn out like.

Jumpy07

Few more pics.. have mounted the arms and connected the motor wires and esc wires (note had red arms on back.. have now moved them to front)

Its really well designed as you can see.. and very quick to take apart and change things..

Its a much smaller rotor span than my H950 Carboncore.. and so far feels very light..

Next job is to fit Wookong and components...  job for tomorrow

I dont think you can beat the DJI bundle deal.. I am sure its going to move the price point in the industry..  £2.5k for S900, WKM and Zenmuse..  parts separately would be  £1,200 + £700 + £1900 = @£3,800

Most other competitors are going to be £7k+ for something similar ..

The design is well thought out.. and makes maintenance and replacement of parts very easy... not to mention being able to transport it easily..

Only downside is DJI';s support if you have to use it    :-/

Very nice, that really does look the business.  ::)

I agree the package prices make this very hard to resist, very very hard. Sadly my funds won';t stretch that far right now so with my BNUC-S now booked for October I';m onto plan F!

Have you looked at battery options yet.....cost/weight?

I am trying to see if I can get it below 7kg.. hence the "skinny build" not sure if that is realistic or not.. so will try some smaller lipos first..

I fly my CarbonCore with 2 x 5000mah 6s Zippy Compacts..   will try these ..   but likely to  be short flight times @ 7mins

Sounds like we are in the same boat (or is it sinking ship ;-) !)
I think we are likely to meet in Leeds @ half term?!

Sorry for the thread detour..keep them piccies coming :-)

Attached my 2 axis carbon zenmuse gimbal and Sony Nex5n with Hdmi board and IT trigger..    fitted 2 x 5000mah 35c zippt lipos..  total weight = 6.5kg...

Doesent look hopeful for getting it under 7kg with GH4 and Gimbal...even with smaller lipos..

It sure looks that way mate, not a chance sadly. Do you think there is any way round this to keep it under the 7kg mark at all? Is there a big difference in weight between your Nex and a6000? Is a lighter gimbal an option? I would really love to get myself an S900 in the not too distant but the 7kg limit for me is a deal breaker.

That said it is an amazing looking bit of kit you have there. I can';t wait to hear how she flies. ~~

I think with the A6000 or Nex with 8000mah you should get it under 7kg... just dont think you will get under 7kg with GH4 though.

Flight times for 8000mah likely to be around 8mins btw.. just ran it through ecalc..

Now if the Mrs stopped hassling me to do thing.. I would have had this thing flying by now..   maybe not as waiting for an X8R Rx for it  :laugh:

So my dream isn';t completely shattered then, it can be done albeit with smaller lipos. Something had to give I suppose. Thanks for doing the eCalc for me, much appreciated.

As for your missus I can only sympathise with you. ;)

Have you thought about the Lumix LX 100 as am alternative it';s meant to be "similar" to the GH4

Looks gr8.

Alternatively, if can't stretch to the S900, maybe one of these...?

Flight of the Giant Quadcopter

you'll need one of these tho:

In motorcycle terms, the S900 is probably akin to a Kawasaki Z750, the OFM massive X is say, a Norton Commando?
