450 Heavier Payload - Which Motors

I';m running a stock DJI 450, 2 Axis Zenmuse / Gopro with their standard motors, 10 x 3.8 props and 3s 5800 batteries.
I';m really please with how it flies in it';s current set up and flight time but want to carry a better camera which will increase the weight.
I recently tried using a different gimbal and landing gear which added about 370g in total and it wouldn';t stay airbourne after the 1st few minutes so I';m guessing it was too much weight.

I';d like to carry either a Camera that will add either 90g or my preferred camera would add 140g to the current set up. I realise this isn';t as much as the 370g but am still concerned I may get a repeat of before.

Would changing the DJI 2212 - 920kv';s for sunnysky 2216 either 800kv or 880kv make any difference to the power if I kept in on 3s and if so which do you think might best or would I have to jump up to 4s to get the extra lift??

I have some 4s 5800 batteries but if I went that route it adds another 136g just in battery weight although with the 800kv';s I could possibly go to 11" props ....... not sure if a 450 will take them???
This platform is just for stills not video but I do find the current 12 min flight time good so wouldn';t want to drop too much below that if possible.

I realise the real answer is use a bigger Multi / Hex but I just love the portability of this, pick it up and go !!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You can buy extension pieces that allow up to 12" props. They';re not official bit basically just pieces of aluminium with holes at either end to mount on the arms and mount the motors further out on the other end. Might be an option to get that extra couple of inches to run heavier motors with larger props.

Just to add something in by way of looking at this from a different angle, I recently built a 450quad with the intention of taking it away on hols in the car, rather than my hex, but amazingly, my folding hex actually took up less room than the quad (non folding).

Just saying, budget depending, don';t discount a hex if space is your main concern. Mine can carry a dslr when called for (although the dslr gimbal doesn';t fold to be fair).

If you go to 4S with lower kv motors (Guessing the 880kv) you could probably stick with your 10" props and have more power; if you';re definitely going for new motors it might be an idea to try 4S on your existing motors with the existing props (Don';t go for full throttle though - you might overheat the motors!). Difficult to say whether it will be enough or not though, hence the suggestion to try it out with your existing setup.

I wonder if the sunnysky 800';s could take 12" props on 4s, that could be quite a nice combo if so and I could use the 5800';s I have, do you know where I can get the extensions from, I#ve never seen them mentioned before.

Balders,
Hi there, I have just bought and set up a Tarot 680 but really want to use that as a dedicated video platform to save me switching between the two.
I love the fact that it does collapse but haven';t found a way that I feel comfortable laying it down without removing the gimbal so it';s starts becoming quite a pain which is exactly why I like the 450 - pick up and go and keeping the 2 separate.

I';m just very aware that 4s is borderline with the DJI motors and the more weight I put on the higher the throttle will have to be and the more chance I';ll get the magic puff of smoke.

Will the 880';s produce more power with 3s than the DJI';s do does anyone know, could probably go up to 11" props with those on 3s.

I tend to go for higher kv motors and smaller props, it suits my way of flying - I don';t like avoiding flying if it';s windy! The smaller the disc the props present to the wind the less the aircraft is affected - for a camera platform this issue may not be so important so bigger props will actually give better lift turning slower than small ones for the same power, it';s something I found out with my planks, best vertical performance is aided by using bigger props, smaller props can give better speed - it';s a bit of a trade off!
