QAV400 Gimbal - Which controller ??

So now that my spanky mini quad is getting all the sporty action with its mobius on, I thought I would use the QAV400 with a gimbal now and finally getfpv released the gimbal which I have ordered and its on its way to me, I have the gopro3black+ to use on it. I have never used a gimbal before and I havent ordered a gimbal controller so my question is do I really need to spend £150 on a alexmos v3 or will a cheaper board suffice? I hear some of the cheaper ones run alexmos FW anyway. Just need a little advice here chaps

I';ve built a QAV400, and also purchased the gimbal. Not flown it with the gimbal yet, but managed to get the gimbal configured. I was really annoyed that the proper alexmos gimbals were basically 150quid (The getfpv gimbals really aren';t cheap without them either). But I was lucky enough to pick up a Basecam Alexmos controller last week off ebay for a steal at 53 quid so I';m sorted with mine.

You can basically use any gimbal controller with the gimbal as long as they';re 50x50mm (which I think most of them are). But the key thing is that you need to make sure that the IMU is happy with being placed vertically behind the camera (as opposed to them being placed horizontally level with the top of the camera).

I have a cheap martinez board (which works great and a relatively early version), and it doesn';t support that kind of mounting at least for that version.

Also another thing is that you can get different sized IMU boards. The one that GetFPV recommends is a 23x23mm board which fits perfectly in the slot they provide. But I found are hard to come by. But you can get away with a non-square board as well as long as one side is 23mm.
