Wood and MDF H quad

Just finished another build,

Test hovered in the front room, there';s no way I';m going back to manufactured frames unless something really awesome shows up... scratch build all the way 

Anyway here is the pics, sorry for the quality, only had a phone cam to hand and it was late

Just a small observation, I notice that the body is quite wide(I understand as you';ve used MDF) but it looks from the piccies that the props will overlap it, that will give you a loss of thrust and therefore efficiency. 3mm ply is cheap as and would allow you to have a much narrower body Just a thought..

Yes 3mm ply is the stuff to use ... in my view MDF has no structural integrity 

I';ve built 4 now from 3mm ply and aluminium tube - including a full QAV500 clone (http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=2523.msg20991#msg20991 ) - and all were excellent fliers ..

I';ll post a video when it stops raining, I';m hoping to get to the field tomorrow for a proper flight.

The props do overlap the main frame slightly, as they did when they were installed on  the F330 quad. I';m not too fussed about it, the frame cost nothing to make, so I';ll mod it if I need to, thanks for the suggestion.

Probably not, but I can put together some plans with measurements if anyone wants to build one

That';s almost where I got the idea from, but looking at a dinner lap tray and thinking how could I make that fly?

I';ve got an old coffee table that is well past its sell buy and really fancy the idea of buying some hk donkey motors (cheap as chips) and red brick esc';s and kk2 fc to just cobble something together to see if I can make it fly - if not it';s skip fodder ::)

Now that sounds like a plan,

Low KV motors, huge props and some powerful ESCs should get the job done

I would have to agree with all of this. Good quality 3mm thick plywood is almost as good as fibreglass for building quads and so much cheaper. I built all my prototypes out of the stuff.

Version 2 of this will be made out of 3mm ply,

The wood and MDF this frame is made from was scrap I had lying around, so total cost for this frame was zilch  ::)

Even the electronics, I only had to buy the Naza.

It';s great flying something that costs nothing, zero guilt and zero worries if you stuff it, I was almost tempted to try and make a multi out of my left over Depron

To top it off, it flies really well, that makes building it worth the effort, no matter what they';re made from
