FPV Video Transmitter Protection

Just a little idea to help protect your FPV 5.8GHz / 2.4GHz Video Transmitter and that is to knock up a little strain relief cable to go between your antenna and the VTx unit.  I have seen it before and thought it was a great idea, so ordered the bits and made one up last night before testing it out today.  It will help prevent ripping off the SMA socket on the Vtx in the event of a crash.  I flew out 500Meters only today, didn';t see any degradation with video signal with the added link cable, not that I expected any .  1KM + flight test soon.   Skews should be good for 4 - 5 KM but no way am I taking a quad that far lol

I have added the cable to my DIY coffin copter - http://www.multi-rotor.co.uk/index.php?topic=2502.msg19779#msg19779

I need to reposition some things on my quad and hide the VTx, but for now it is on the edge.

If you want to make one up yourself you need a panel mount SMA socket from China (£1.50) or similar from maplins (£2.80)

Plus some coax and another SMA connector
If you don';t have the crimp tool for a DIY then you could buy one pre built from China for a few quid but you';d need to ask em to make it to length.  This one is 6" long (WAY TO LONG!) I would personally have the overall length of the link cable at 2" for 5.8GHz  http://www.ebay.com/itm/cable-SMA-male-plug-right-angle-to-SMA-female-jack-bulkhead-RG316-6-pigtail-/271207892156?pt=US_Radio_Comm_Coaxial_Cables_Connectors&hash=item3f254004bc

Anyway just an idea to help keep your VTX safe.

cheers
