The missing plane and batteries

So the missing plane was carrying Lithium-Ion batteries.

I wonder how long before the knee-jerk reaction blanket bans us all from carrying our equipment on planes!
I may be dumb, but my learning curve is high...

What and ban anything that uses lithium-ion. Mobile phones laptops etc. How will people survice without their iThingies.
Don';t see that happening somehow

Just a matter of time, you can';t post them anymore.  They were obviously concerned that ';new'; & greater levels of care would be needed when transporting mail!  No more chucking it about (yes I';ve seen that done).

The plane will have been packed near to full with Li-Ion and even Li-Pol batteries in the form of mobile phones, cameras, laptops to mention just a few.  I think that it would be impractical to try and shut down the carrying of these for personal use.  They may, however, limit the size and capacity in a futile attempt - it doesn';t matter what they are, if one flames then the aircraft crew and passengers have a problem on their hands.

I think more likely the most plausible explanation of fire, by a couple of pilots, that a tyre fire - wheel retracts into the bay and the burn continues. Or an electrical fault that caused the massive shutdown of the electrical circuits (normal) where the flight engineer would fault find and turn circuits back on one by one.

I';m off to Vegas in 10 days! I love New York, for a few years it became my second home, I was out there a week a month for about 4 years! Never did LA, always wanted to.

I think the thing with flying, returning topic, extraordinary things occasionally happen, and this particular one is right there on top with all of the most extreme. But generally, given the amount of dangerous material that is carried by passenger and cargo alike ... I don';t think the risks are any higher than devastating mechanical failure.
