shortening cables

Hi guys I need some help I have just bought a ezosd and have come across a problem theres just so many wires its like a rats nest in my quad with all the esc signal leads fpv leads and now osd leads and soon to add a gimbsl so my question is do you just bunch them up as best as you can or shorten them and how do you do it I just want it to look nice and clean

aahhhh james the age old birds nest problem !!! TBH i have found the best thing to do is hang everything over the sides to get a good handle on whats what then try and bundle stuff using either heat shrink or tie wraps. tis a real pain as we all just add stuff as we go and it just gets more and more unsightly as time goes by (then you usually prang it and the rebuild sorts everything)...sometimes it just pays to start over with the whole thing so it can be planned out properly and neatly. i never shorten wires as you never know when your going to need the full length again. all my rigs are constantly changing due to all of them being nothing more than huge RND projects that are ongoing !!! i use a lot of 3m double sided and loadsa velcro and tie wraps so things can be changed at a moments notice !!! hope this helps...

Good advice above, how about using a PPM Rx? 1 cable from FC to Rx?

I usually shorten my cables by soldering them. It';s worth leaving them long until you have everything working nicely and then neatening them up at the end though - otherwise sods law states that you';ll miss something and end up with a cable that';s a cm too short.

I cut my cables a few cm';s longer than the minimum possible length so that they aren';t under any tension and don';t snap after every crash.

I do mine the same way only I';ve not been twisting my wires up after splicing them together. I might try that next time - looks neat.

Cheers guys ive been looking at servo braid. Might have to get some then fold it in there some how. its just the osd cables there';s just so many of them. ive only got a lil hoverthings flip 360 im going to do away with the naza and go bk to the kk2. I dont need to tell anyone about the amount of cables that come with that.

Tricky to keep it away from anything on a mini quad, but I have mine strapped to the arm of a 450, so midway between the electronics & motors, which seems to work fine.

My esc';s are on my arms so the only real place is on the top of frame. I know I have to keep my vtx and radio rx away from one another but does that mean the actual rx or the antenna as i can route that up a tube above quad out the way and then keep rx nxt to vtx which will alow me to put osd at back of quad then all it will be next to is battery

Well actually, my esc';s are under the arms on this quad, with the ezosd directly on top, as I say works fine.  I think ancillary placings are mostly common sense, but of course, you should ideally try it out with the kit roughly ';placed'; before fixing it all down (dry as it were), if at all possible

I cut and re terminate everything. So much neater. Crimp tool and connectors are pretty cheap.
