Been out today and flown the quad with the Naza on. Can';t believe how good this is so stable and when it becomes a dot in the distance just flick a switch and it comes back and lands almost at your feet.

Now I know most on this forum will be 25 years younger than me or more and this technology probably isn';t that smart to you but to me its incredible.

I started flying in the late 60s as a child of about 8 years old sticking bits of balsa together and covering it with tissue throwing it towards the sky and hoping for the best. Have been an active modeller ever since, got my first engine as a ten year old in 1971 and started flying RC as a 17 year old also fly helicopters and had a business in the model trade a few years ago so am quite experienced.

Despite all my experience this is an incredible step forward with technology which when I started modelling the ability to do this would be beyond science fiction.

Just leaves me to say thanks for all the help setting it up  and to warn you the next step is FPV so be prepared for more daft questions.

Thanks again

Stephen

Fantastic stuff isn';t it ~~

I';ve just given my naza its first flight "in anger" - hitting the return to launch switch was weird at first but it was very exciting to watch it slowly glide to the ground.
TBS Discovery + ghetto printed gimbal, HovershipMHQ 1 & 2, QAV250, Turnigy Talon V2, chinese Alien500 thingie, 3d Printed Tricopter, Bix 3, Flyingwings.co.uk FalconEVO, Venturi EVO 1+2, Hornet Racing Wing, Radjet800 (by the dozen)... Permanent sucker for FPV, and lots and lots of OpenLR

Hi Steven
Congratulations on your first flight (oh... & welcome to the friendliest and most helpful bunch of guys on the ';net.)

It is always good to see you youngsters having a good time with the ';new'; technology...

As an old fart, born in the late 1930s I guess I have a few anno domini on you... I get my free TV licence this year ;) I got my first steam engine (Meths fired) in the late ';40s

I have recently been bitten by the UAV bug too - I have learnt 99% of the essentials from the guys here. This is a great place to be.

Have a great time ...

Stephen, well done, I too have my maid to go tomorrow having already done a test hope in the back garden and are keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is going to hold.
Like yourself I am wanting to go down the FPV route so will be looking out that I don't ask the same questions as yourself.

typically mine went t**s up on me today while doing a flight demo to a potential customer, luckily it was hovering at about 10 feet so the only casualty was a broken prop !!! won';t be flying at this location again though as this is the third weird control loss i have had at the same location... spooky or what !!! anyways well done that man and welcome to the NAZA miracle machine that makes us all look like pilot genius !!! ::) ::)

all the best rob

I';ve worked in telecoms for about 30 years, from HF point to point comms all the way through to satellite based wide area networks but it staggers me how much technology is available for relatively little money for those in this hobby.

I';ve just finished my F550 build which included the install of the DJI Datalink system and two days ago was my first trial of this system.  I plotted four waypoints and set the craft on its way, then panic set in!!! The F550 just kept climbing!!! I checked the flight plan and realised the error of my ways. I thought the default height was 20m but in actuality the flight plan was set to 50m. It';s actually quite nerve racking how high 164ft and a half inch actually is.  Even with my inability to distinguish numbers, I actually do battle with dyslexia, the flight plan was executed perfectly, with realtime position info and telemetry data being displayed on my iPad. I';ve been active in amateur radio for about 30 years and not much, apart from rudimentary DSP and the addition of extra bright blue LED';s on the transceivers, has changed. Where as I';ve only been active in this hobby for 6 months but the advancement in this hobby is staggering.

Regards

Stephen; you';re the same age as me, and I was messing around in the early 70';s with diesels/glow motors as well!

Nidge; I have the waypoints as well, but have yet to use it in anger, maybe do us a short vid tutorial?  I like tutorials..

Just a youngster then Stephen - I did exactly the same at age 8 in 1960 - then diesels at age 10 and  a late comer to radio at the age of 30 in 1982 ... lately into all electric and helicopters too ....

Have also recently discovered Naza having started off with the ';Blackboard'; then the KK2  and was also gobsmacked when I flew my first Naza RTH and it landed a yard away from me with the TX on the ground by my feet  :o :o

Technology now is indeed wonderful - when I think back to the excitement of 1cc control line diesels and now realise that - very sadly - modern kids will never experience that - at all ....

I was only telling someone the other day - I mixed my own diesel fuel back then - 33% Paraffin - 33% Castor Oil - 33% Ether - and 1% Amyl Nitrate - and at age 13 used to go to the local chemist for a Winchester bottle of Ether and a small bottle of Amyl Nitrate and he never batted an eyelid because he knew me and what I was doing ... the nanny state wouldn';t allow that now ... mores the pity.

Ho hum ... so called progress - in some areas - and retrograde steps in others. I have to say though .. all electric flying is indeed a revelation - clean - efficient and simple ... ~~

Wasn';t the hippies that loved it. It was more the recreational drug of choice for another section of society

We used to keep viles of it at a place I worked years ago in case of Cyanide injestion.

Ah - the innocence of youth - all I used it for was an an explosive additive in diesel fuel ... didn';t know it had any other uses  :azn
